Cape Muroto Boulders
On the southeastern tip of Shikoku lies Cape Muroto. It is a wonderful place. There are lots of strange plants and beautiful flowers and an amazing seascape of steep forested mountains rising straight up from a rocky coastline. From about Toho Town and south, route 55 runs directly next to the sea for about 40 kilometers or so ending at Murto Misaki. All along this coast there are bouldering spots that I have found, but the largest concentration of problems seems to be right at the very end. At low tide there are about 20 or so problems, less at high tide. None of them are really very hard so a hard core boulderer would probably find this spot lacking, but the good weather in winter and the beautiful scenery make it worth visiting.
Here are some photos of three of the boulders. You can find the boulders behind this hotel in the above photo. There are several parking areas nearby as well as restrooms. Up on the hill behind the cape there is a look out tower that gives a great view on a clear day. Although I've never tried it, people say the fishing is excellent here so if fishing is your thing...
