French 111, Chapter 5, Leçon 3, Vis-à-Vis

The main purposes of this lesson are that :

Students will be able to respond orally to basic questions.
Students will be able to orally conjugate faire
Students will demonstrate mastery of question-asking, faire conjugations, and faire expressions by perfoming a survey in French of fellow classmates
Students will be able to orally conjugate -re verbs

Materials

1. Pop quiz sheets
2. Sondage sheets
3. Faire expressions on cards
4. Additional faire expressions on overhead
5. Overhead (not filled out) of perdre
6. Homework sheets

Opener

1. 12:10 … Have extra faire expressions already on the board.

2. Start with oral questions as preparation for oral exam.

       LONG -- Décrivez votre chambre.
       LONG -- Qu'est-ce que vous portez aujourd'hui?
       SHORT -- Quand est votre anniversaire?
       SHORT - Est-ce que vous jouez de la guitare?

3. 12:15 … Pop quiz over Correspondance (use timer - five minutes)

4. 12:22 … Oral (with books closed) practice with fair conjugations. Rapid-fire.

5. Repetition of faire expressions - assign one student to call out translations to verify.

6. Put additional faire expressions on the overhead - leave up for students

7. Chorus read Mots-Clés on p. 120

8. 12:30 … Sondage! Put students into expert groups to prepare questions, hand out Sondage sheets. Give max of 5 minutes for preparation.

9. Have students circulate & ask questions - max 5 minutes.

10. Have students report their answers to their partners.

11. Get two or three responses from the group.

12. 12:43 … (if there's time) … Have all students stand up, books closed. Quick drill on faire conjugations, then on expressions. Succesful students can sit. Do until whole class is seated.

13. 12:46 … introduction to -re verbs

14. Using overhead and pens, show basic conjugation style.

15. Rehearse for pronunciation.

16. Do listening exercise (p. 120) - one student at the board, others with paper.

17. Have student come up and do the same for another verb.

18. 12:53 … In groups, do Ex. A, p. 121 … model first sentence for students.

19. Hand out homework sheets.
20. Remind students about
