Flying through the Himalayas
SUMMER 2002

One of the highlights of our trip to Nepal was the chance to take a one hour plane flight from Kathmandu up to the Himalayan peaks. As it was monsoon season, clouds obscured all views from the ground, so this was our only chance to see the mountains lurking just out of sight.

My sister and I about to board the 16-passenger flight.

The domestic terminal of the airport -- very small.

A zoom in on one of the peaks.

Another wide-angle, with the wing at the right.

We were briefly allowed in the cockpit,
where the windows were clearer and the view amazing.

The morning sun, propellor blades, and mountains
made for an impressive sight.
