Tada! As you can see from the view from the top, there is still some evidence of the runners. We're assuming that the bits in the middle are darker because they were never varnished, and therefore were more susceptible to aging.
The end result in the living room, and the promised view of the hearth. If you look closely, you can still see bits of white paint ingrained in the wood, especially near the edges. You can also see the paler lines of the putty-glue compound between the boards, but overall, what a difference!
