You Lit Up My Life

Part 3

Darkwing raved as he parked the ratcatcher, and Launchpad nodded constantly, no longer aware of what his friend was saying.

"Launchpad?"

"........"

"LAUNCHPAD!"

Darkwing's scream brought Launchpad out of his little trance. Whenever DW had one of his raving attacks, Launchpad had a tendency of zoning out, and just agreeing to whatever Darkwing threw at him.

"Wh...Oh, what is it DW?" He asked, turning to Darkwing, who was tapping his foot impatiently and scowling. The situation would have been comical, if it wasn't for that fact that Darkwing was more then a little agitated at the moment. "I SAID...." Darkwing took a deep breath, and tried his best to calm down. "I said...that I have to find out who that girl with Megavolt was!" He spoke, managing to keep his temper at a low.

"What girl?" Launchpad inquired, having been oblivious since Darkwing had started raving into the topic of Static. "What gir....THE ONE WHO HELPED MEGAVOLT ESCAPE, THE ONE WHO BURNED ME TO A CRISP....THE NEW VILLAIN!" He screamed at the top of his voice, pulling at his feathers in frustration. Launchpad shrank slightly, and his eyes sank to the floor slowly. "Oh..." He trailed off, and Darkwing felt slightly guilty. "Sorry LP...I just have to find out who she was, and why she was willing to help Megavolt!" He said softly, his mind already opening up to a dozen different possibilities.

"Well, if she works with Megavolt, do you think she's a new member to the Fearsome Five?" Launchpad asked as he and Darkwing left the secret garage and headed for the surface. "It's highly unlikely. I doubt Negaduck would let a girl into the Fearsome Five, he's more selective then that..." Darkwing trailed off. "Besides, if she was a member, she would have been here longer, and I would have seen her before now!" Darkwing stated. He had taken off his Darkwing costume, so once they were inside the Mallard household, he once again his day-alter ego, Drake Mallard.

"Maybe she's just been hiding out well!" Launchpad suggested. Darkwing sighed, and the two headed towards the living room, and plopped down on the couch. "Hey dad!" Gosalyn cried as she ran past him from the kitchen, towing a large hockey stick. "Just a second young lady...where do you think your going?" Darkwing asked, noting her tomboy persona. "Oh, Tank and Honker wanna play hockey...Tank anyway!" Gosalyn corrected, remembering Honker's dislike to any sport that involved physical pain, which was usually the case in most of Gosalyn's favored sports.

Drake nodded, and waved his hand. For a second, Gosalyn stood watching him, but then ran out the door, heading for the Muddlefoot's parking lot. Drake could already imagine the sound of breaking glass, and shuddered at the impending doom of having a puck launched into his bill.

"We've got to get some history on Megavolt....maybe she's an old friend of his or something...you know, back in town!?" Darkwing shrugged. Launchpad thought momentarily, then snapped his fingers. "Didn't Megavolt used to go to High School with you DW?" Launchpad asked, and Drake shuddered. "Yeah...his name was Elmo Sputterspark!" Suddenly, an idea hit Drake, and he raced upstairs to his bedroom. He threw open the door, and delved into his closet, filled to the brink with old junk.

Finally, after some seriously painful searching, Drake pulled out an old yearbook, and took it downstairs to show Launchpad. "What's that DW?" Launchpad asked as Drake seated himself back on the couch, and began flipping the pages of the yearbook. "It's my old yearbook Launchpad...and I'm looking for the graduating students...or possibly one grade below...." Drake trailed off as a picture caught his attention. "Hellloooo....what have we here?" He muttered, tapping a photograph. "Wow...who's that, she's really cute!" Launchpad commented, looking down at a picture of a young mouse with curly black hair. "That was....Rita McAdden....and what a striking resemblance to yesterday's villain..." He trailed off, recalling Static in his mind. "What a striking resemblance indeed...."

Police are yet to find the culprit responsible for the bombing at the St. Canard High School last Saturday. There were reports of injuries, and two students have been reported missing. One Elmo Sputterspark, last believed to be going to the prom on Saturday night, and one Rita McAdden, believed to have run away from home. If you after any news concerning.....

Drake shook his head, and his eyes widened. "OF COURSE! IT'S HER!" Drake cried out, pouncing off the couch and onto the table, still holding the yearbook. "What are you talking about DW?" Launchpad asked, amazed at his friend's sudden show of enthusiasm. "Don't you see Launchpad? It's Rita McAdden...I bet she was there when Megavolt attacked for the first time...and he kidnapped her, then gave her the same powers he had!" Drake concluded. "I don't know...." Launchpad started, but Darkwing was too preoccupied to notice. "Still...he may have brainwashed her somehow...I ought to give this case more attention!" He decided, and headed to the garage again. He hopped onto the ratcatcher, with Launchpad barely keeping up. Then sped off towards the town's historical records.

"So....why exactly are we going to see the records?" Launchpad asked as they sped down the street's of St. Canard. "Because LP, they should have newspaper articles on any important things that have ever happened in St. Canard...I'm guessing the appearance of Megavolt and the disappearance of one of St. Canard's most richest family's daughter ought to make headlines, don't you agree?" Darkwing asked sarcastically as they parked the ratcatcher and dismounted. Then, they headed inside the building.

Meanwhile, back at the lighthouse....

"Megavolt?"

"......."

"Megavolt!"

"........"

"Sparky!"

"Wh...don' call me...Sparky.." the muffled reply finally came.

"Are you all right?" Static asked, touching Megavolt's cheek gently as his head was now propped up on her shoulder. "R..Rita...is that you...? Is it time to go to the prom yet?" Megavolt slurred, sounding as though he were drunk. "P...prom...Oh Megs, that prom has been over for years, remember?" She sighed, tapping a fingernail on his goggles.

Megavolt lurched to one side, and scrambled to the other end of the couch. "RITA...YOUR HERE, I MEAN, IT'S YOU...I...UH..." He panicked, turning a bright red as he did. "Hi Elmo!" Static waved shyly, and felt herself blush for the first time in a long while. "Been a while..." She trailed off, and looked at the floor nervously.

"So....so you're really Rita....and I...I DID THIS TO YOU, ARGH, I'M SUCH AN IDIOT!" Megavolt suddenly screamed, bits of electricity outlining the walls as he let his anger flow. "What? You mean my powers?" Static laughed, and hugged him tightly, causing him to sink to the floor. He didn't know how to respond, so simply kept his arms hanging by his sides as Static rested her head on his chest. "What happened that night was the most incredible experience that ever happened to me...I was just sorry I never got to thank you earlier!" She sighed, as Megavolt drew in a slow breath.

Megavolt sighed, finally finding enough courage to link his arms around her waist. "No wonder I felt like a knew you the first time we met like this..." He trailed off, and leaned his head closer to hers, kissing her gently. For a moment, everything in the lighthouse became dim, as if the light from the lighthouse itself saw fit to bestow such a mood. There was complete silence.

Of course, it didn't last very long....

"OHHHHH SPARKY!" The door to the upper portion of the lighthouse flew open, and an over-enthusiastic Quackerjack burst in. "HEY, wanna watch television and....WHOAAAAA....." Quackerjack halted in mid-rant, and jumped back a few feet, getting the full impact of the scene before him. He realized he had just burst in on Megavolt...with a girl?

Megavolt and Static were off the floor in a second, and stood there awkwardly beside each other. "Hey Quacky...." Megavolt muttered, turning red. "What brings you here?"

Quackerjack stared at the young mouse beside Megavolt for a moment, his jaw not making any known sounds. "Hey!" Static waved, bits of electricity jumping off her fingers as she did. Quackerjack smiled dreamily and waved back, a goofy grin stretching out on his face. "AHEM! I'd ask you to take your attention off MY girlfriend, but you seem so attached..." Megavolt started sarcastically while seeing the expression on Quackerjack's face, who was still not able to talk.

"Y....Your..." Quackerjack managed to say, slowly turning to face Megavolt. "Yeah....we haven't seen each other in a while...and this was sort of an emotional moment...so if you don't mind!" Megavolt pushed Quackerjack right out the door, who kept looking behind him and waving dumbly at Static, who rolled her eyes as Megavolt managed to close the door without getting Quackerjack's bill stuck in it.

"Cute!" Static remarked sarcastically, smiling. "I'm guessing that was the Quackerjack you mentioned?!" She chuckled, and seated herself on the couch. Megavolt nodded, and went over to sit beside her. "Say...Rita...Static! If...if you don't have a place to stay...would you maybe like to...uh...." Megavolt began, not being able to get the whole question out. Rita laughed gently, putting a hand on his arm. "You know...this reminds me of the time you asked me out to the prom...you were just as nervous!" She chuckled. Megavolt blushed. "Yeah...I don't really remember...but I think I would have been!" He choked.

Static smiled, and leaned closer to him, on all fours. "Do you remember that time in your basement?" She asked, and kissed him. Megavolt hooked an arm around her waist, and they resumed their kisses, oblivious to Quackerjack's snickering from behind the door.
