Part 4
Darkwing Duck had gone to the police station after checking out the records, and not finding anything past what he had been suspecting. "Well...my best hunch is that Megavolt somehow zapped her, and brainwashed her!" Darkwing stated as they looked through older criminal records, and found who they had been looking for. "AHA! Here she is...goes under the name "Static"....and it seems she likes to raid electronic stores as much as Sparky!" Darkwing muttered, skimming through Static's five-year criminal record. "It's kinda funny you didn't run into her until now!" Launchpad commented. "And you'd think someone would recognize her to be Rita McAdden...it's such an obvious resemblance..." Darkwing sighed.
He flipped through more pages, until he came to a more interesting section. "Lookee here....looks like her secret hideaway consists of one of the abandoned warehouses in the worst section of St. Canard...sounds like something up Negaduck's alley...they may know each other after all!"
Meanwhile....
"Hey ducky!" Static muttered in boredom, not even bothering to stand up straight in Negaduck's presence. "Du...WHY YOU...." Negaduck started, reaching for his trademark yellow uzi. "N..NEGADUCK...Uh...She's just not...used to you...that it so say, she just doesn't know how powerful you are!" Megavolt rambled, trying his best to curb his boss's violent temper.
Negaduck glowered at Static, who smiled at him sweetly. Nevertheless, he put the chainsaw down slowly, and took a seat in his large, black leather chair. "I...am Negaduck!" He started menacingly, but was interrupted by Static's outburst of a hissing-like laughter. "I know who you are hotshot! Though I gotta say...your not much to look at..." She arched an eyebrow, crossing her arms in front of her. Negaduck was beginning to turn an unhealthy purple color, and his fists were turning white while Static spoke.
"I've seen you on the news...and the papers, and I've heard people whisper about you in fear....that I'll admit it impressive...." She trailed off, as though she were disgusted to admit it. Negaduck resumed his normal color, and leaned forward in the chair. "Really?" His voice dripped sarcasm, and one could tell that her next words seem to satisfy him.
"Though I have no problem in admitting that when it comes to kicking Dripwing's tailfeathers....your certainly a duck on the job!" She straightened herself, and sat on his desk, watching patiently as Negaduck tapped his fingers on the chair. "Hmmm...maybe you do have potential....I couldn't believe it when that clown told me Mega-Nut had a girlfriend....but I guess you'd have to be as nuts as he is to..." Negaduck was cut off as Static grabbed him by the front of his shirt, and drew him near enough to have been able to kiss him if she wanted to. Though the idea more then disgusted her. "Listen ducky....you may think you have the rest of your pals here on a tight leash...but I'm not interested in being one of the *so called* Fearsome Five...so don't get on my wrong side..and nobody gets hurt....like you!" She hissed, and Negaduck swore he saw electricity pass behind her eyes.
He stood abruptly, and saw that even standing, she was still higher then him. In fury, he whipped out his chainsaw and started it up, aiming it at Static's direction. He had expected her to fall to her knees and beg forgiveness, that last thing he had expected was for her to summon up an enormous sphere of electricity in the palms of her hands and hold it enclosed there, glowering at him in malice. "You wanna play ducky?" Static growled, "borrowing" one of Quackerjack's trademark lines.
Negaduck stopped in his tracks, and put down the chainsaw, smiling in satisfaction. "I knew it....you do have more potential then any of these knobs....none of them would dare stand against me....I'm beginning to like you mousy!" He grinned, and went back to sit on his chair. Leaning back, he stared out across the room at the flock of amazed faces. "Whadaya all staring at?" He hissed, looking at each in turn, until his gaze was locked with Static's. "Well, mousie...." He grinned, extending his hands towards her. Static smirked, and electricity played on her tail, making her seem constantly "charged". "I've had enough games for today....Megs wanted me to meet you, and now I have! I've no intention of joining! However, if you ever want to invite me over to do something fun....like say, kick around Dripwing....I'll be at Megavolt's lighthouse!" She said casually, then turned and left.
For a moment, there was complete silence in the room. "Well....uh..." Bushroot started, not really knowing what to say. He had to admit to himself, he was kind of glad there was at least *someone* in St. Canard besides Darkwing Duck that could stand up to Negaduck.
"Do you enjoy senseless carnage? Do you want to see bloodshed on a regular basis? Does the prospect of two being ripping at each other in violent hatred enthrall you? Then try the patented *Stick Static and Negaduck in one room* game, guaranteed to bring a smiles to the face and a body to the morgue!" The Liquidator erupted in his salesman type speech, catching everyone off guard.
"Hey! Leave her alone!" Megavolt growled, scowling at the Liquidator. "Oh yeeeeah! She's your girlfriend!" Quackerjack giggled. Megavolt raised a finger to fry him, when Bushroot spoke. "I, for one think that it's nice that Megavolt had been reunited with his one-true-love...it's so romantic!" Bushroot sighed, wishing he could meet someone himself. He was always alone, except for his plants, and it was sometimes very depressing.
With that, the group started a discussion about who was most likely to get better girlfriends then the others. No one noticed Megavolt slip out the door.
Hopping in his car, he headed towards the lighthouse, assuming that it was where Static had left to. As he neared the lighthouse, he could see Static standing dangerously close to the water, and looking out across the rippling tide. "HEY! Are you crazy? You wanna get killed?!" He cried out, rushing out of the car and pulling her back. "Jeez mousie, if you were so depressed about what Negaduck said back there, you should have told me....I'd have...uh...." He couldn't quite finish, because he really couldn't imagine himself going up against Negaduck. "Well...I would have done *something*" He finally said, looking at her sadly.
Static's eyes had widened, and a short laugh escaped her throat. "Oh Sparky, do you think I'd let some jerk like Negaduck upset me enough to go suicidal on you?" She asked, arching an eyebrow. "Well....uh, why were you standing so close to the water?" He asked, still looking slightly skeptical. Static shrugged, and looked out again, a small smile on her face. "I don't know Megs...I guess I was just remembering stuff, and got caught up in it!" She sighed, and let her usual tough aura drop momentarily. She didn't like talking about what she felt, because she had always believed that it gave other people an advantage over her. But for some reason, she really didn't mind spilling everything to Megavolt. Maybe it was because he knew what she was feeling, without asking a million stupid questions.
Megavolt nodded, a thin smile playing on his face. "Yeah....to tell you the truth I don't remember much at all....I mean, I didn't even remember my own name until you told me...Elmo...man, no wonder I was a geek!" Megavolt groaned, wondering what he had done to his parents to deserve such a cruel fate. "Well, I always thought it was cute!" Static shrugged, hitting him playfuly in the shoulder. They headed inside the lighthouse, as Megavolt linked an arm around her shoulder. "Hey mousie...don't call me Sparky!" He growled, a telltale grin making his real feelings obvious.
The next day, Static woke up next to Megavolt, squeezed together on his yellow couch. They had fallen asleep talking about everything that they could remember, up until the events the night before. She pushed herself off the couch and landed painfully on the floor, rubbing the back of her neck. "Damn....I gotta get Sparky to steal another couch or something..." She muttered, rising to her feet.
Megavolt was still asleep as she made herself a light breakfast. She had never really had much of a morning appetite. As she finished off a piece of toast, she walked over to a still sleeping Megavolt, and watched him in silence. He really didn't look much different then from his High School days. True, he was older...and his hair seemed to have fallen off, but he was still cute. She smirked, and still so shy. "Megavolt! Megs!" She shook his shoulder gently, and roused him. "Mmm? Wh...Rita?!" He yawned, and rubbed his eyes. "Nope...just her significant other, Static!" She smiled gently, and kissed him. Small bolts of electricity jumped in between them, causing a slightly dramatic effect. Megavolt propped himself up on his elbows and smiled up at her. "Same thing!"
Together, they headed downstairs, discussing what major crime to commit. As they walked down the stairs of the lighthouse, Static collided with someone heading up. "Wh...Watch where your going!" She snapped, and received a hurt look from Bushroot. She regained herself immediately, and placed a friendly hand on his shoulder. "Sorry Bushroot!" She said, being sincere.
Megavolt looked at the mutant plant duck curiously, wondering what he was doing there. "Hey Static, Megavolt!" Bushroot nodded to both of them, as they headed down the rest of the stairs together. "So what's going on Bushroot?" Static asked once they all stood outside the lighthouse. "Well...you know that offer about kicking Dip...er...Darkwing's tail feathers you made to Negaduck last night?" Bushroot asked, and almost immediately received full attention. Bushroot smiled mischievously, putting his leaf-like hands together. "Well...Negaduck might just have invited you to a little party...."
