After Bekonscot we went to visit Burnham Beeches, where we spent many a happy Sunday with the family when we were kids.
Unfortunately my camera batteries were flat by the time we got there - don't know why, it wasn't as if I'd taken lots of pics or anything!!!! - but Tina has a couple of pages of pics
here.

Next morning we went to have a quick look round the town of Slough....

a close up of the owl in the Bird Tree....

the corner of Windsor Road and High Street......

then on to see our old junior school, but we discovered it had been knocked down
and a new "Special School" was being built there..

Then it was time to head to Northampton to visit my old High School friend,
with a stop on the way to  see the White Horse at Uffington.

This was the closest we could get to it -
I'm sure it would look a lot more impressive from the air
but we didn't have the means to see it like that
and it was a
very long walk to get above it!!!

The scenery was magnificent.....

We'd been getting lost quite regularly on our travels - even when Tina & Bill thought they remembered how to get somewhere from their previous trip - but I think we excelled ourselves trying to get to my friend Gloria's place in Northampton!!!   We had a map book but found the road signs rather hard to follow and we totally missed the turn off the Motorway and finished up almost into Banbury before we were able to turn around and  go back..

I'd told Gloria we should be there by about 3pm and soon after that she rang us to ask if we were nearly there as she had to go and pick up her grandson from school.  Her husband was home though so it didn't matter if we got there while she was gone. I told her we'd got lost but were now heading in the right direction and  shouldn't be too long....

But somehow when we actually got into Northampton, we still couldn't find our way to her place and had to park in a shopping centre car park, ring Gloria and tell her exactly where we were and ask her for directions.   By this time it was after 4 pm, into peak hour, traffic everywhere..... so Gloria said it would be easier for her to drive down and guide us back!!!!!  Good job we'd sent each other recent photos as we hadn't see each other for over 45 years and may have finished up looking for each other all night.......
But find each other we did and soon we were all sharing a lovely cup of tea and getting to know each other again!!!!!!
It was shame we got lost and finished up with so little time together - I hope I can come back again some time..

We all went out to Gloria and Malcolm's 'Local' for a delicious meal and had a great night..  Unfortunately we only had time for me to stay one night - Tina & Bill stayed in a local hotel and picked me up again the next morning.  Malcolm took this pic of the 4 of us before we headed off to spend the rest of that day with one of my Neil Diamond email friends.....
