Welcome to ENO - Environment Online!

ENO-Environment Online is a global virtual school for environmental awareness. Four environmental themes are studied within a school year on a weekly basis. About 200 schools from 75 countries currently take part. The ENO programme has been running since 2000. It is administrated by the city of Joensuu, Finland. ENO has received funding from the National Board Of Education and municipalities in the Joensuu region.The main idea is to lay emphasis on the local environment and to see it in a global aspect: act locally - think globally. Information is gathered from local communities and shared globally on the ENO website. Learning is student-centred with both online and offline activities. At the end of each theme there is a campaign week during which the results of learning are raised in local communities and on the website.

GOALS:

• to deepen environmental themes in education
• to add global awareness and internationality
• to support sustainable development and act towards the Millennium Develpoment Goals
• to have developing countries act as active participants

• to study to learn co-operatively in a web community
• to learn basic skills in ICT

PARTICIPANTS:

·         200 official ENO schools in 75 countries, about 5 000 people (school year 2005-06

·         The age of students: 10 - 18 years
