The term ‘faith’ to me has become a synonym for surrender – relinquishing control to another in the expectation that other will do for you, or in reward for blind obedience will bring about the desired result: faith to me is passive and effortless.


To express the positive side of most refer to as “faith”, I prefer terms such as dedication and belief. For instance, I don’t see myself as having “faith” in the guidance of Lady Lilith, instead I regard it as being “dedicated to” Her path – the crucial distinction being that using the term dedication – to me – reflects the idea of a two-way street: I put in my effort to draw out what She has to share.


The truly adept witch or magickian relies not on faith, but invests their dedication (making the effort in expressing their will) and their belief (understanding and insight as developed through study/reflection/practice and effort) to bring order out of chaos, or achieve their goal.


The Inner Black Flame is the accumulation of insight and understanding developed through dedication and belief, and transcends the conscious and the subconscious; it is the fire that gives life to your soul, that carries your will and that bridges your being with the eternal fire that is the transcendent energy of life in the universe.


This is why I do not rely on faith – “not faith” but express my dedication and belief; both made of effort and will by me.
