Sheboygan's heritage as a thriving port city
is now
renewed with vigorous plans which connect past,
present, and future. Harbor Centre is a comprehensive
and interrelated pattern of uses, reviving the links
between the lake, city, county, and all of East
Central Wisconsin. The lakefront, harbor, and
riverfront areas are the catalysts for rebuilding the
central city. The first phase of riverfront
revitalization, already underway, suggests the
possibilities.
Harbor Centre seeks to capture the best of
Sheboygan's history, natural resources, and the
current environment in a new workable program which
can guide and stimulate development for decades to
come.
The renewed spirit created by Harbor Centre
focuses
on the future. The opportunity to preserve and
enhance the lakefront and harbor for future
generations extends the spirit of the past and
creates a vision which can be achieved with broad
community support, cooperation, and sound incremental
investment decisions.
This illustration shows a bird's-eye view
of the
south end of the Harbor Centre retail shopping area
with a major new office center development. In the
foreground, commercial and residential development
has expanded along the riverfront.
The initial phase of the Harbor Centre
project will
include construction of a 400 slip marina,
improvements to the boat launch facility, and
expansion of Deland Park into a festival park. A
hotel and exposition center is also planned for a
riverfront site.
RENEWED SPIRIT (Harbor Centre)
The prosperous port of Sheboygan harbored
picturesque tall-masted schooners in 1875. The
Harbor Centre program would bring a thriving marina
to this same river bend just south of Riverfront
Park.
