What is the shape? Good question. I have been asked this question by many people...and there is no clear, concise answer.

My theory relies on the fact that yes, "the shape" and Michael Myers are two distinct entities. Michael Myers is the human body that was inflicted with the curse of the Thorn. "The Shape" is like a spirit, which enveloped Michael's body. Whenever young Michael Myers was inflicted with the curse, is when "the shape" took over his body. "The Shape" was a name created by John Carpenter to illustrate that he is no longer a mere human being, but he is pure evil, in "the shape" of a human body.  Hopefully this will clear up some questions many people have about the mystery of Michael Myers.

I decided to dedicate this page to Michael and the men who played him on screen.  I will include photos of each mask, from every movie and allow you the viewer to download them for your viewing pleasure.  Please click on the image of your choice in order to see a larger version.

The original mask is the best mask in the series!!  Nick Castle played the Shape and he was hired because of his unusual walk and gracefulness.  The mask was originally a William Shatner Don Post mask from Star Trek. The creators changed the hair, painted it white, opened the eye sockets more and shaved the triangle sideburns.

Halloween II used the same mask from Halloween.  Dick Warlock played the Shape and although he tried to imitate Castle he couldn't quite get it.  Warlock wore lifts in his shoes to make him look like the much taller Nick Castle.  He also wore the same mask that Castle wore in the original Halloween.

Halloween 4 used a totally different mask because the first one was destroyed in Halloween II.  The Shape was played by George Wilber who filled some big shoes left by Warlock and Castle.  Wilber did a great job but proved that the magic created by Castle could never be repeated.

In Halloween 5 the Shape was played by Don Shanks.  Many fans dislike the mask and Shanks portrayal of the Shape.  I will never say that Halloween 5 is a motion picture extravaganza but I feel that the mask is pretty cool and Shanks doesn't do a terrible job in his role as Michael.

Halloween 6 is by far the worst movie in the series. (excluding Halloween III)  The Shape is played by several people throughout the movie and the films storyline fails to bring Michaels to life for the viewers.  I do not hate Halloween 6 but I thought that the film could have been a little better.  Michael has become like his counterpart Jason Voorhees and lacks the power of the previous films.

The Shape was played by newcomer Chris Dunard during H20.  His portrayal wasn't bad but I would rank it as one of the lowest.  The creators attempted to make a mask that looked more like the first one.  But the hair was too long and unkept and the facial features still weren't good enough.  The mask changed several times during the film because the producers used different masks for different scenes.  Also, Dunard's performance had much to be desired because he never seemed focused enough as the Shape.

I saw Halloween 8 in its first week of release and I was satisfied with the performance of Brad Loree.  He was menacing enough but the problem is that we as fans measure each new Michael Myers against Nick Castle or Dick Warlock and therefore nobody is ever good enough. I felt that Brad did a great job during the murder scenes and the scene where Busta Rhymes scolds him.  That is classic Michael Myers.

Tyler Mann plays Michael Myers.  He is a former pro wrestler and is currently acting in Hollywood.  Mann played Michael brought a human like quality to Myers that was sorely lacking in his predessors.  Tylers murder scenes have the same ferocity that you have come to expect from Michael Myers.  Because of Rob Zombie's script, Tyler protrayed Michael as a misunderstood Frankenstein-like monster.  It was a fresh take on the character and I really liked it.  I would rank Tyler up there with the Dick Warlocks and Nick Castle's.  He did a great job bringing a new dimension to Michael's psyche.

"I met him, fifteen years ago. I was told there was nothing left. No reason, no conscience, no understanding; even the most rudimentary sense of life or death, good or evil, right or wrong. I met this six-year-old child, with this blind, pale, emotionless face and, the blackest eyes... the DEVIL'S eyes! I spent eight years trying to reach him, and then another seven trying to keep him locked up for I realized what was living behind that boy's eyes was purely and simply... EVIL!" Dr. Sam Loomis
