A GOOD Breeder will breed to the Breed Standard and if NOT they are obviously breeding for the Wrong reasons.
Mismarks and circumstances do occur in breeding, But it is the Responsible, Ethical, Educated breeder that will admit the possibilities and then work to correct them in their breeding program...

"This is my Opinion "
Correct me if I am wrong with documented proof that my opinion is wrong.
There are Many things that can be somewhat controlled in a Breeding program, However and most unfortunately, SIZE is NOT one of them.
Even among the very best Breeders in the world.....You will have a big size range.
In fact, in every litter of Shelties, there
may be one or two that will go way oversized or undersized.
There is NO environmental factor that can change that....Otherwise all Breeders would have all show sized dogs.

Size in Shelties is one of those controversial things that all Breeders are forever struggling with.
Even with puppies...Size cannot be predicted with any accuracy....even when factoring in the size of the parents.
2 small Shelties can (And quit often do) produce very large offspring, or smaller.

To show a Sheltie in the conformation ring, the Sheltie must stand between 13-16 inches at the withers, Even a quarter inch over or under will disqualify the dog.
Also a Sheltie with 50% white is automatically disqualified...as is a Sable dog with one or both blue eyes.

If this information is wrong then please let me know and I will correct any errors in information that I have been given that there may be.
