As you can see, there are two huge grooves in the side (top in this pic) of the cover. I'm glad I got around to doing this, because if they went much deeper it would've been into the water jacket.
The passenger side one is also chipped and cracked.

| Finally, after a whole lot of unbolting I got the timing chain cover off. I had to hit it with a rubber mallet and actually use a small screwdriver to pry it up after I was absolutely positive there were no more bolts holding it on. I actually unbolted a lot of unnecessary stuff trying to figure out what could be holding it on, so this took me a long time to do. | After removing the four bolts holding on the guides, here they are next to the new ones I got. The drivers side one is barely even there. I got a new steel one to replace it with rather than a stock Toyota plastic one so it should last much longer. | ||||||||||||||
