The Light in the Darkness
Chapter 1
He shivered slightly and reached a shaking hand to pull the covers up higher. Not that it would be much use; he was always cold nowadays. He severely doubted that he would ever be warm again.
Not now, not after everything that had happened, all that had been said.
His ears were still ringing with the harsh words that had been all but screamed at him, even though it had been weeks ago. The look of disgust that had crossed the other man's face as the implications of his own admission had hit the other man full force was still just as sharp.
He had admitted his deepest, darkest secret. The one thing that no-one else knew.
The fact that he was in love.
In love with one of his best friends.
One of his best friends who was a man.
He closed his eyes again, trying to block out the images that assaulted his brain. The sight of his love's expression going from compassionate and caring to disgust and hatred in the blink of an eye. The pain that had ripped through his chest, breaking his heart into tiny pieces with every insult that had fallen from sweet lips.
The resulting silence from the other man, a blank refusal to even acknowledge his existence, unless they were in public, where he acted as if nothing was wrong. The resulting touches made all the more painful because of it.
His days were now full of silence, and his nights filled with pain and regret.
The others had tried to talk to them, tried to find what had gone so terribly wrong; but he couldn't tell them. He couldn't take losing them as well. And he would lose them if they knew, just as he had lost his love, his life, his reason to live.
He shivered again, feeling an odd tingling sensation in his fingers and toes. Sighing, he forced his body to uncurl, allowing the siren song of darkness pull him under.
But things would be better now, because he had finally found a way to make the pain stop...
