The Light in the Darkness
Chapter 2
Kevin walked down the hall, yawning broadly because of the early hour. He normally hated having to get up at such an ungodly hour, but this time he didn't mind. The sooner he got on a plane back to his wife, the better. The promotional tour from hell was nearly over, and then maybe things would get back to normal.
He banged on Howie's door, receiving no answer he slipped the master key into the lock and opened the door. The sound of running water reached his ears, and he smiled and shut the door again. Howie was obviously already up.
He crossed the hall and headed for Nick's room, knocking softly. He was surprised to hear movement on the other side of the door, before Nick opened the door and stood before him, already fully dressed.
Nick grinned at the look of shock and confusion on his older bandmates face before speaking.
"Is everybody else up?"
"Howie is. I still need to check on Bri and Jay."
"Want me to wake Bone?" Nick offered.
"Would you?" Kevin asked. "I need to talk to that cousin of mine, find out what the fuck's wrong with him. Tell him to sort himself out before we go our separate ways for this break."
"I don't know what's wrong with him. He won't talk to me. Just keeps shutting me down whenever I try to talk to him about it. Let's hope you have more luck with him." Nick told him as he slipped back into his room and grabbed a key card off the dresser.
"Here, swap." Nick handed the key to Kevin, taking the master key in return. "That's Brian's spare key card so you can get in."
"Thanks." Kevin smiled softly at his youngest bandmate.
"No prob." Nick replied. "You want me to have a word with our dearest Bone? See if I can get through to him?" Nick asked.
Kevin thought about it for a moment before answering; "You can try if you want. But he's being just as tight-lipped as Brian."
Nick nodded and walked into the hall, closing the door behind him, "We'll just have to see about that, won't we."
Kevin reached his cousin's door and knocked quietly. He wasn't really surprised when he got no answer, and so he slipped the key card into the door, watching the light turn green
Behind him, Nick was having a similar non-response from AJ's room, and used the master key before slipping into the darkened room.
There was silence in the hallway for a few moments, punctuated only by the soft rhythm of Kevin and Nick's voices trying to rouse their bandmates.
But the silence was suddenly shattered by a panicked call...
"Help!"
