A New Day
Chapter 27
Brian left the house, feeling about an inch tall. He shouldn't have blown up at AJ like that and he knew it. It was just that he had been so worried when he hadn't been able to get hold of him. He knew he should have had more trust in AJ, but when he had found nobody home, and the T.V. still on, what was he supposed to think?
But now he had hurt AJ worse than he had ever done before, and he didn't know how to fix things. Reaching his car, Brian turned and looked back at the house, desperately wracking his brain in an attempt to think of a way to fix things, but coming up blank. He shook his head and put his hand in his pocket to fish out his keys.
His hand came into contact with his cell phone, and he had a sudden thought. He couldn't help AJ right now, but he knew somebody who could.
He quickly dialled Howie's number, and waited for his friend to pick up. He would know what to do, after all, he was about the only person who seemed to be able to get through to AJ. The phone rang and rang with no answer, before the answer phone kicked in. Brian cursed and hung up, before re-dialling Howie's cell phone. He never went anywhere without that. Brian cursed again as this connected straight to Howie's answer phone, meaning that Howie had it switched off.
Brian ran a hand through his hair as he tried to think of some other way to sort this out. There was one other person who could make AJ feel better, who AJ would allow close enough to comfort him.
Brian quickly flicked through the numbers on the phone, looking for one in particular. Finding it, he quickly dialled, and sent out a quick prayer that this time somebody would answer.
"Hello, Denise..."
