The Rescue

"Wait, what about Ice?" Brian asked "I mean she is Kev's companion and a firestarter. It might work."
"I'll get her" Nick said standing up 'Ice! Ice! Ice! We need you, Kevin's in trouble!' he mindsent loudly.
'You don't have to shout, I'm right behind you' Ice said smugly as she rubbed against the back of Nick's legs.
"Ahh! Shit! Don't do that! Burn that hair so we can get Kevin and Jakara out of that spell" he said pointing to the lock of hair.
'Ok' she said stalking over to where the hair was and purring loudly. A minute went by and nothing, Ice collapsed to a lying position 'I can't...I'm not strong enough. I'm sorry' she said weekly.
Howie walked over to her and picked her up to lay her down away from the hair "Tis alright hun, you tried your best" he said stroking her head. He turned to the others "Now what do we do?"
Stormwind was pacing behind all of them "I...I have an idea" he said stopping to get their attention before continuing to pace. "I've noticed when I looked at you that you all are bonded. You all have sort of like strings connecting you. Well what if you could lock in on that bond and use it to yank Kevin out of the spell. Then Kevin could fire the hair and get Jakara out of the spell" he said stopping to get their opinions.
Nick immediately used his Sight to look at himself and the others, sure enough there were string like threads of power connecting all of them. But AJ's to Kevin was different; it was silver where as the others were just plain simmering lines of power. I'll have to ask Stormwind about that he thought to himself. "I think AJ should do it" Nick said aloud.
AJ turned to stare at him "Why me? We all have a bond with him and Brian is his cousin."
"Because you are a mage Alex, the others are not. Yes Nick has some mage gift but you are the strongest, you surpass even me in strength" Stormwind said flatly.
"But if I do it, who will shield me? I don't wanna get sucked into that spell" AJ protested.
"I'll do it" Silverwing said flying down to land behind the group. "My bond with you isss ssstrrrong Alex. I will not let the ssspell get you" he said walking over to stand next to AJ.
"But what if I can't do it? Kevin will be stuck in that spell because I couldn't get him" AJ said softly.
"You can do it AJ! What if you don't do it? Kevin will be stuck in that spell because you didn't have the balls to try!" Nick said hotly.
AJ shot him a glare and walked over to the space near Kevin and Jakara "Silver, shield me" he said a frown settling on his face as he relaxed his mind and started to concentrate.
Nick smiled and thought to himself 'just gotta know what buttons to push'.
"It'sss all ssset chosssen" Silver said quietly.

AJ fell into his center of power and looked around. He found the links to the others and began to sort thru them. He grabbed one and tugged a little 'Nope, its Nick. Try again' he grabbed another one and tugged again 'Dude that tickles' he heard/felt Brian say. He grabbed the third and immediately knew it was Howie's when he felt the love and strength flowing through it. He grabbed the last line, wondering briefly why it was a different color than the others and began tugging on it. 'Kevin...Kevin can ya hear me?'
Kevin was suffering through the spell a third time when he felt something tugging him and heard someone calling him, it was AJ. 'Alex...help me please' he said weekly. 'It's horrible.'
AJ almost lost his concentration when he heard Kevin, never in his life had he heard Kevin sound so...so...broken. 'Gotta get him out' he thought hurriedly. 'I'm gonna get you out of there Kevin, I promise' he said as he tried to figure out how to do this.
'Just yank him' Stormwind said quickly. 'Whatever you do, do it quickly because Silver is getting weaker and for some reason he can't tap into the node under the castle.'
'Shit' AJ cursed inwardly. 'Well here goes nothing' he thought concentrating all his power into the bond between them and yanking with all his being. The bond flared blinding silver and surged with power before AJ lost consciousness.

Kevin was again doubled over in pain with the tortures Alanna was going through when he felt a hard yank and consciousness pulled away from him. When he opened his eyes he was looking up at the blue skies of Valhala. "Wha...what happened" he asked softly.
"You were trapped by a spell. Are you alright?" Stormwind asked.
"I'm fine, what about Jakara" he asked quickly.
"Still trapped, only a firestarter can burn the spelled item and you were both trapped. AJ pulled you out" he said nodding his head over to where AJ lay unconscious and with Howie fussing over him.
"Is he alright?" Kevin asked slowly getting to his feet.
"He drained himself doing that. For some reason we didn't have access to the power node under the castle. I shall have to look into it.
Now, can you fire the spell?" he asked.
Kevin looked over at the lock of hair, not even a moment later it burst into flames so forcefully it blew apart and the burning bits scattered about the grass. "Fucker" he muttered under his breath and looked over at Jakara, who was still unconscious on the ground. He walked over to her and sank down to the ground and cradled her into his lap. "Jakara, come on now, wake up" he whispered softly.
Jakara stirred when she heard her name being called. She opened her eyes "Kevin" she said whispered eyes flooding with tears "Alanna" she cried burying her head into his chest.
Suddenly as if the memories came flooding back to him like water through an opened dam Kevin leaned down and lay his head on hers "I know...I know" he cried softly and they wept together for the pain she went through.
