Chapter 20
Kevin and Jakara

"Jakara I can't do it" Kevin said perplexed. He'd been trying to fire the firestone for the last hour. The more he tried, the harder it seemed and he was beginning to get a headache.
Jakara smiled and shook her head "Never say can't Kevin; it isn't that you can't do it, you are trying too hard to do it. Firestarting is relatively simple; you shouldn't have to try to do it. It should come naturally to you" she said waving a hand at the stone, moments later it burst into flames. She closed her hand and the flames died. "It's there inside of you; you just need to find it. Relax and draw it out" she said pointing at the stone "Now do it Kevin."
Kevin closed his eyes and frowned in concentration, calling up the feeling he'd had right before he'd charbroiled that lizard. There, he'd found it, he called it up and directed it towards the stone. He opened his eyes and smiled. The stone was merrily burning away.
"Very good Kevin, I told you, you could do it" she said giving Kevin a warm smile. She then heard a loud screeching call from the sky and looked up "Oh...its Alanna's falcon Scree" she said pointing up to the large falcon gliding down towards her. The falcon dropped a roll of parchment in her hand before settling on her shoulder. "It must be a note from Lana...oh it's tied with her hair, how peculiar" she said ignoring the shiver that went down her spine.
Kevin walked over "Well what'd she write" he said reaching for the hair at the same time as Jakara. Suddenly a rush of pain hit them both and a feeling of fire coursing through his veins caused Kevin to scream in pain. Never before had he felt anything like that before in his life and never again did he want to experience it. He was sure he'd blacked out for hours when in reality it'd only been seconds.

'Jakara where are we?' Kevin asked opening his eyes and looking around the dimly lit room.
'I don't know Kevin, can you move at all?' she asked struggling to get up from her position on the floor.
Kevin tried to rise only to find his body seemingly frozen in place 'No...I can't move at all! Jakara what's going on?' he asked trying to keep the panic in his voice toned.
'I don't...OH MY GOD ALANNA!' she cried looking over at the pale figure on the wall. She struggled to get up again 'Alanna...Alanna can you hear me!' she cried struggling again in vain.
'Jakara, stop struggling...it won't work' Kevin said trying to get her to calm down.
'But she's...oh my god what are they doing to her!' she cried as 5 guards walked into the room 'No! Stop! Don't you touch her!' she yelled when the guards started their tortures.
'Leave her alone!' Kevin yelled, outraged and horrified by what they were doing to the young woman's body. He could hear her screams echoing in his head 'Stop it!' he cried trying to block out the woman's screams and pain. As the whip snapped across her pale flesh he could feel the pain as it was his own 'No!' he shouted cringing with each blow.
Jakara watched helplessly as they tortured her lifemate. After what seemed like an eternity they stopped and Jakara let out the breath she'd been holding. The pain was unlike anything she'd felt before and she was relieved that it was over. She looked away and then heard an ungodly cry come from Alanna and could feel the tension and pain in her pelvic area 'No...please don't...stop it!' she cried throwing all she had into breaking her invisible bonds. She looked over at Kevin and could see the pain and anguish in his face, see the tear tracks down his cheeks and could hear his screams. 'Kevin' she said weekly.
Kevin couldn't see...hear...even think of anything but the pain ripping through his lower body. If he screamed he didn't know it. All he could concentrate on was the pain. :Kevin: that voice suddenly broke into his consciousness, he found the strength to look over at Jakara 'Jakara, they're...they're...'
'I know Kevin, I know.'
Suddenly the pain lessened somewhat and they looked over at Alanna. The guards had stopped and a man had joined them in the room. He was looking at Alanna and smiling at the guards. 'I know him...that's the king of Ikichka, Feshar' she said, anger overriding the pain in her voice. They watched as he took the poker out of the fire once again and slammed it into her stomach eliciting a scream so painful Kevin feared the sound would forever be burned into his ears. Alanna's body arched into the touch and her head arched back against the wall leaving her neck pale and exposed. Feshar looked over at the corner of the room and grinned, as if he knew they were there and watching. He withdrew a knife from the belt of his tunic and slashed quickly across her throat ending the scream so abruptly that it shocked Kevin and Jakara both. 'No....' Jakara's cry echoed in the vastness where they were as her lifemate's body slumped lifelessly in her chains. Then, everything went dark and it was as if they were nowhere, no where at all.

'Jakara...Jakara we need to get out of here' Kevin said trying to get through to Jakara who was sobbing uncontrollably. 'Jakara please...I feel it too but we need to get out of here.'
Suddenly the room lit up again and there was Alanna, alive again and the guards walking into the room again, to begin there tortures all over again. 'No...please not again' Kevin whispered as the screams began.

Brian, Nick, AJ and Howie arrived practically simultaneously at the courtyard where they found Kevin and Jakara lying seemingly lifeless on the ground. Howie was about to reach down and feel for a pulse when Stormwind came up and yanked him back harshly "No...don't touch them!" he said quickly.
"Why? I need to see if they are alive" Howie protested.
"They are alive and fine...physically anyways. Alex, Nick use your Sight to look at them. What do you see?" he replied and turned to AJ and Nick.
AJ and Nick quickly fell into their state to see. There, surrounding Kevin and Jakara was a blood red glow and a particularly dark spot which was the lock of hair between Kevin and Jakara.
"They're trapped in a spell" AJ said shivering slightly.
"It's tied into the lock of hair" Nick added pointing at the hair.
"How can we help them?" Brian asked bouncing nervously in place.
Howie closed his eyes and concentrated carefully on their fallen friends "We need to hurry...whatever it is they are going through is bad, they are in so much pain" he said rubbing the sides of his face trying to stop the tears from the pain he'd felt them in.
"We need to get that lock of hair away from them first off" Stormwind said walking around them examining how possibly to get at the hair.
"We can't just grab it?" Brian asked.
"No!" Stormwind exclaimed "If anyone else touches the hair, or Kevin and milady there, they will be drawn into the spelltrap as well. We must find away to draw the hair away from them" he replied.
'I can do it' a voice said in their minds. They all turned to face the speaker 'I have some Fetching abilities as well. Slight they may be, but they should to the trick shouldn't they?' Silence asked dismounting off the horse she'd been riding.
"Silence you're back. Can you really help them?" Nick asked hopefully.
'I don't know if I can help them but I can certainly get that hair way from them' she said walking over to the group surrounding Kevin and Jakara. 'I'll need someone to shield me from the spell though' she said walking over to get the best angle.
"Stormwind" AJ said nodding.
Stormwind shook his head "No Alexander, you shield her. If you can throw up 3 shields in one day cold, then you are stronger at that than even I" he said promptly.
Silence gave him an odd glance to which he shook his head at her as if to say 'I'll explain later.' 'Ok Alex, lets do this' she said motioning for him to come over to her. He approached her cautiously and looked at her questioningly. 'I need you to throw the strongest shield you can must around us, its the only way I can get a lock on the hair without being pulled in. Ok' she said looking at him. He nodded and she could feel the shield being built around her. Moments later they could see the lock of hair drifting a few inches off the ground away from Jakara and Kevin. Silence moved it to a space well away from them, then she dropped it and sagged a bit.
Nick ran over to her and helped her to sit down. "Are you ok?" he asked quickly.
'I'm fine Nick, just a bit drained' she said smiling slightly.
"Well now that we got the hair away from them how are we going to destroy it and break the spell?" Howie asked walking over to get a batter look at the hair.
"I'm familiar with this type of entrapment spell, fire is the only way to destroy it" Stormwind said softly.
"So lets burn the damn thing" AJ said hurriedly "We need to get Kevin and Jakara back!"
"It isn't that simple Alex" Stormwind replied "It has to be destroyed by a firestarter."
Everyone was quiet for a moment looking around at each other and at Kevin and Jakara "But..." Nick started.
"I know...I know...we don't have a firestarter. They're both trapped by the damn spell" Stormwind said dejectedly.
