Risk Factors

Risk factors are a guide for parents and care givers,
there is no known cause or cure for SIDS; therefore even though we strongly encourage you not to take these risks, nothing will prevent SIDS. 

-
Infant sleep position: Placing baby on belly while sleeping.
- Exposure to smoke during and after pregnancy.
- Over heating: Includes clothing, blankets, room temp., and time of year.
- Infant bedding: Soft bedding.

                    
Other Risk Factors:

- Formula feeding
- No use of pacifiers
- Mothers age less than 20 years
- A short interval between pregnancies
- Late or no prenatal care
- Placenta abnormalities
- Low weight gain during pregnancy
- Anemia
- Alcohol or substance abuse
- History of sexually transmitted disease or urinary tract infection
