| PART II - Waking Up Sometimes, when one wakes from one's first, flesh and gore nightmare, he wakes thrashing and screaming about as a child. And really, in the dreamworld, he has never grown up. Years upon years of age and wisdom mean nothing once under the influence of unconsciousness. Sleeping is a surrender of the self to the mercy of your inner daemons, so you best be acquainted with your terrors and monsters, because they are the ones that truly dictate your mind. Once committed to you, these beings are now only purposed to torment you, make you writhe and sweat between your sheets; Comfortable as your body may be, daemons light your skin afire or crawl just beneath the surface, carrying you 'way to insanity. But ... Insanity, in itself, is a defect of the mind or its mental capabilities. And who's to say that a nightmare isn't, in essence, a defect of the conscience... Or even a defect in the pure thinking capabilites while vulnerable to the effects of the conscience? Or maybe a nightmare is a mere glitch, one that makes us scream of our own, self-inflicted terrors rather than some nonexistant? Whatever the case, upon waking, you don't care if your nightmare was a defect, an effect, or whatnot.. You care that you are scared. And, whether you admit it or not, you care that you're still alive. |
