Nucleic Acids are complex macromolecules that are produced in living cells and viruses. Nucleic Acids have two purposes: to pass on hereditary functions and to trigger the production of certain proteins.  Bases are one of the chemical compounds that taste bitter, turn litmus blue, and feel slippery.

Info on genes, traits, and chromosomes
Chromosomes are thread-like structures composed of nucleic acids.  The chromosomes contain the nucleic acid DNA.  The DNA is composed of subunits called genes.  Genes determine hereditary characteristics such as eye color or hair color in organisms.
