"I’M A BELIEVER"

Volume 72, Issue 3 The Georgia Junior Chamber of Commerce May 2002

Georgia Jaycees,

The weather is heating up, so you should know what’s just around the corner! That’s right, Jekyll Island! The DSA Meeting will be held the last weekend in May at Jekyll. This is our time to recognize community leaders from across the state at the Distinguished Service Awards Banquet and to recognize outstanding Jaycees and chapters for their hard work these first four months of 2002. Lon Fox, our National Vice President, will be in attendance. Lon has been to several of our events and is looking forward to coming back to Georgia. If you haven’t made your reservations, call today. Rooms are limited, since it is Memorial Day weekend.

Special thanks to the Jesup Jaycees for their hospitality during the state BB Gun match. I enjoyed meeting you guys, and I will see you in a few weeks at your meeting. Thanks to everyone who participated in the 1K41K Program. Gray, Marietta, and Macon sent information on a community fundraising project run that help the US Jaycees reach the total of $1,642,594 to benefit our communities across the nation. Jaycees are out there working and this project proves it. Congratulations!

Marietta, way to go on a successful Camp Dream auction. It was wonderful to see such support from the area chapters. Keep up the good work.

My job is beginning to slow up and I want to be on the road more, but I need your help. E-mail me or call me to let me know what you’re doing. I WANT to visit your chapter! The staff and I want to travel, but we need you to let us know when you want us to visit you.

Georgia Jaycees, this is the year that we can turn this organization around! It’s time we returned to our communities, work together, and brought life back into the Jaycees. We want Jaycees to be the organization of choice, but in order to make it people’s first and only choice, we have to make some changes. Take a good look at your chapter. What can you do to make it more fun and rewarding? It starts with you, the local member. You are the one who can make a difference today.

I believe in you, Georgia Jaycees!

In my last newsletter article, I asked for letters of recommendation for individuals who are deserving of the following areas, outstanding LP, New Jaycee, and Jaycee. So far I have not received any letters. I find it hard to think that there is no deserving Jaycees who could be nominated. Please look within your chapter or other chapters and help me recognize someone special. If you can't write the letter at least give me some names.

I'm still out visiting chapters who need assistance and training. Can I help you?

Thanks Dublin Jaycees for your hard work and for allowing me to present you with an orientation. Keep up the great work.

Woodstock you had a super Kids ID program. This program was also in association with Child Abuse awareness week. A large number of children were ID'd and given blue ribbons to wear. Also, donations were accepted for the building of a shelter for Cherokee County.

Jekyll is just around the corner. Please feel free to talk with me about any needs you may have. If you need assistance before then call me or email me. 770-888-6324 or [email protected]
