FROM THE PRESIDENT

Hello Macon Jaycees!

I would like to say thanks to everybody that helped out with Cow Patty Bingo! Also I would like to welcome Chip Hammack & Don Coffey to the Board of Trustees. We have five people currently serving on the Trustee Board. They are Lisa Pickett, Chip Hammack, John Swank, Don Coffey, & myself. If anyone wants information about the trust account please contact us.

Thanks to John & Alyson Swank for the use of their house for our m-night. Hope everyone had a good time, at the party and at the Camp Dream Open House. I would like to see our chapter get more involved in the community. I know summertime is busy for everyone, but let’s try to build this chapter up and work together as a team.

Respectfully

Mark Mullis, President

FROM THE CHAIRMAN

"If you can imagine it, you can create it. If you can dream it, you can become it." – William Arthur Ward

Macon Jaycees…… What were your dreams at the beginning of the year? We have hit some stumbling blocks, but not a brick wall. There is so much our chapter can accomplish. Did you notice I said OUR chapter? That’s right yours and mine. And because it is yours and mine, the board needs to know what you want.

Are we not having enough projects, too many, not enough family oriented projects, too much emphasis on one thing and not enough on another? Or…. are you happy with the way things are?

Please…. this is the time to voice your opinions. We are at the mid point of our year. Last year we asked that everyone fill out a mid year evaluation so we could see what we were doing right or what we needed to change for the remainder of the year. Some of you did this but I wish it had been more.

I challenge each of you to make your voices be heard. We want to build this chapter back to where it needs to be but must know your feelings and what you want to get out of Jaycees. Is it more training, more parties, more coliseum? More meetings, less meetings…. You get the point.

Our next board meeting will be July 7th. If possible please get with a board member prior to then and let us know your thoughts. This is OUR chapter!!

Kellye Ivey

Chairman of the Board

UPCOMING EVENTS

Hello Jaycees,

I would like to invite everyone and their families out to our annual Central City Park Family Day. It will be held on Sunday, July 21, 2002. The fun will begin at 1:30 and go until sun down. We will be providing food, however I ask that each person try and bring a snack of their choice, just to add a little variety. We will be playing games and enjoying the sun. Please come out and bring your family and friends to this event. I assure you a good time will be had by all. For further information you can contact Lisa Pickett at 770-775-9260. Hope to see everyone there!!!

Management

Hello fellow Jaycees,

Just a few lines to let everyone know what is going on with our chapter. Our membership meetings for July have both been moved up a week because of the Holiday. Hope everyone has a happy 4th! Our first meeting will be July 11th at Logan’s Roadhouse. Same time as usual. We encourage everyone who can to come out and join us.

The board is cooking up something exciting for our second meeting of the month, details are still a bit sketchy, but it will be something that everyone can enjoy. It will be on the 25th of the month, location to be announced on the 11th.

There are some interesting things going on that we encourage our members to be a part of. The weekend of the 4th there is the International BB Gun Tournament. They still need volunteers to help out. A stack and pack room will be available for those working two days and for those not from the Atlanta area. The money this event raises goes to support Camp Dream. So if you can volunteer.

The Children’s home party is set for July 17th at 6:30 p.m. If you have not attended this event in the past and even if you have, I encourage you to come out and meet these kids. They are great!! I would also like to thank "Mr. Bill" for coming out and talking to our chapter at the last membership meeting. He was very informative. A lot of people don’t think that an hour can make much of a difference, but to a child an hour makes all the difference in the world.

Don’t forget our Central City Park Family Day, July 23rd, at 1:30 p.m. I would like to thank Lisa Pickett for chairing this project. If you would like to chair a project, all you have to do is get with one of the board members and let us know what you would like to do. It may sound scary, but we’ll walk you through it all the way.

PS: Note to Board Members : Our Board meeting scheduled for July 7th has been moved to Kellye Ivey’s House at 6:30 p.m.

Kathy Chance, MDVP

Community

Georgia Children’s Home Pizza Party is scheduled for Wed. July 17. Still need someone to head up this month’s party. Come one, come all. The kids are really enjoying spending time with us during dinner. Please join us on the 17th.

Make a wish update – The Radiothon was a success. Make-A-Wish thanks to the Jaycees for their $124.00 contribution from the High Sheriff’s fines and Cow Patty Bingo. Anyone interested in becoming a Wish Granter Volunteer, training will be held Sat. August 17 from 10-3. Call Ms. Lydia at 755-8450 to register. Space is limited.

Ronald McDonald House needs our tabs! Save you pop top tabs and we will make a group "donation" after we collect a bunch. Bring them to the August 1st meeting and we will start our collection.

Christmas Parade – no it’s not too early to start planning. Matt Gales and Kathy Chance volunteered to co-chair the parade. Remember that we had a great post parade meeting that provided great input for this year. We will be setting a registration deadline and "sticking to it". This will allow us ample time to get organized! Matt and Kathy will probably need some more help. This is our biggest project of the year. If you can help out let them know. Also, if you know of any people with convertibles, let them know now that they can help.

There have been a few other community projects presented to the board. However, all projects demand a strong commitment on a regular basis. We will be re-evaluating these projects in the fall.

Camp Dream – Anyone who missed the Camp Dream Open House- should mark his or her calendars now for next year. I would like to thank, Mark, Christine, Matt, Kim, Scott, Kellye, Courtney, Lisa, And Kathy for representing the Macon Jaycees at this event. We had a great time and got to see why we work so hard during the year to help sponsor this camp. If there is any way that you can volunteer to help this great cause, I guarantee it will be worth your while.

Dawn Hammack, CDVP

Ways & Means

Just wanted to say thanks to Kathy Chance, Chris McMillan, and Matt Gales for working the Coliseum Concession event on June 28th. If anyone has any money raising ideas for the chapter please contact Matt Gales. Summer is here, we raised a lot of money last year with our car washes. Locations should not be a problem.

Matt Gales, WMVP
