The XXXXX Fire Prevention Management Plan is designed to manage and maintain a safe environment for all patients, staff, and visitors.

All XXXXX buildings must pass inspections for compliance with laws, regulations, and accreditation standards.  We accomplish this through design and construction review for all construction and renovation and inspections of fire alarm and protection systems.

Departmental Managers are required for developing unit/department specific emergency plans in the event of a fire.  This plan must contain area specific procedures to ensure the safe evacuation and relocation of patients, staff, and visitors in an emergency situation.

All staff members are responsible for learning and following job and task specific procedures in the event of a fire emergency.

Everyone should know:

  • Where fire alarm pull stations and fire extinguishers are located

  • What their emergency relocation and evacuation plan is

  • Oxygen cut-off procedures (when applicable)

  • Specific patient needs in the event that a fire compromises normal patient care

The following precautions can minimize the spread of smoke and flames in the event of a fire:

  • Never block or chock open a fire door

  • Never stack or store anything within 18” of a sprinkler head

  • Never use an extension cord for permanent electrical power

  • Always keep corridors and stairwells clear

  • Know your R.A.C.E.R. Procedures
