Fire extinguishers are available for employee use in all XXXXX Health System facilities.  The Health System is responsible for educating employees on the principles and practices of using a fire extinguisher and the hazards associated with fighting small or developing fires. This education is provided during new employee orientation and the annual essential education blitz, which all employees are required to attend.  If further education is necessary, please contact the Hospital Safety Office. The following information is provided in these two training programs.

Employees that use a fire extinguisher must be familiar with: (1) The GENERAL PRINCIPLES of fire extinguisher use, and (2) How to conduct an immediate RISK ASSESSMENT to identify the hazards involved with the incipient stage of firefighting.
