Bronco’s Rally Late to Repeat MAA Title

On a beautiful fall Saturday specially made for football the MAA held their title games at Bluhm Field.

In front of a huge crowd the Bronco’s captured back to back titles in a thrilling, down to the wire win over the Buccaneer’s. For 3 quarters and 8 minutes this game was dominated by the speed of the Buccaneer’s.

On the first play from scrimmage the Buc’s running back Ben Hoffman bolted through the Bronco defense and scored from 54 yards out. The Buccaneer’s defense also proved they came to play as Ben Hoffman intercepted a Matt Prekop screen pass in the second quarter and returned it to the Bronco 14. From the 14, Ismail Castill scored easily on a reverse hand off from QB Dan Evans. The Broncos where able to answer with a touchdown of their own on a 12 yard run by Prekop. Touchdowns came easily for the Buc’s in the first half, on another touchdown run from Hoffman from 48 yards out and a touchdown pass late in the second quarter from Hoffman to Castilla. The Bronco’s answered with a 65 yard kick off return by Matt Prekop but by the half the Buc’s had a comfortable 26-12 lead over the defending champs. In the 3rd quarter both defenses settled in and prevented any scoring. The Buc’s missed a couple of golden opportunities but where constantly driving down the field. On a late 4th quarter drive deep in the Bronco territory the Buc’s Dan Evans threw a slant pattern and was picked off by the Bronco’s Dean Bartel. Now with only 4minutes 19 seconds left in the game the Broncos where up against the wall.

Prekop quickly went to work. A couple quick pass completions to his main receivers, Jake Reynolds and Justin Hunt the Broncos where desperate to get into the end zone. With 3minute 50 seconds left Prekop drilled a 14 yard touchdown Pass to Justin Hunt. Prekop added the extra point and now the Broncos were only down by 6 points.

The on side kick had to work for the Broncos to have any hope in the final 3 minutes and with the speed of Prekop and Bartel the Broncos recovered the much needed pursuing kick off. Now with the game in the balance Prekop took control. On a steady diet of rolling right and rolling left Prekop marched the Broncos down the field quickly and scored from 14 yards out to tie the score at 26 a piece. The final piece of the puzzle was up to Prekop for the extra point as he calmly steeped up a kicked the 2 point extra point the Broncos where on their way to their 2nd straight title and their 3rd in 11 years.

Vikings over power Dolphins for 3rd Place

The Vikings casted a little revenge on the Dolphins as they rolled to a 42-6 victory. In a previous meeting early in the year the Dolphins handed the Vikings their first loss at the time in a 8-6 battle. But this game was all Vikings and all Viking running back Mike Roberts. Roberts scored on touchdown runs from 11, 20, 15 and a punt return from 45. Roberts also had 2 interceptions as he seemed to be controlling both sides of the ball. The Dolphins added a late 4th quarter score on a pass from QB Jared Goodson to receiver Ryan Stefaniak but all the damage had been done. The Vikings where lead on defense by Brian DeGroot and Kyle Pierce with 7 flags each. The Dolphins where lead by Kevin Shoenbach.
