    Full Review:
Playstation 2 is no stranger to extreme sports games these days, and so for a game in this genre to succeed, it needs to be good. This status can't be achieved by stupid gimmicks, as "BMX XXX" proved, but instead by finely tuned, enjoyable gameplay. The Tony Hawk's series has always been recognised as one of the kings in the genre, and thanks to some newly injected gameplay ideas, it could continue to hold this title.
    Gameplay
In Tony Hawk's 3, you would be given a 2 minute time limit, and in that time, you would attempt different goals, all of which were laid out at the beginning of the time. Completed objectives were removed from the list when the level was restarted. For the new system, the two minute time limit is dropped, instead allowing a more freeplay approach, where the player approaches certain people and asks for a new objective for which they then have a time limit.

    Overall
For me, there aren't enough changes to make this feel like a totally new experience, and the changes that have been made are perhaps just alternatives rather than improvements, but this is still the best game in the series, the most finely tuned, the most playable. It scores less than Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, simply because it arrives later, when we have already enjoyed this kind of experience. If you are new to these games however, it could be a perfect title to start with.

You could also check out SSX Tricky, for a taste of a different Extreme Sport. SSX Tricky is the the sequel to the launch title SSX, a snowboarding game with some serious style. If you like your sports cold and icy, SSX Tricky is the place to go.
