Yule Ritual

A Simple Yule Ritual

 1999 by Mareth SummerWind

This year was a very hectic one for me, so I decided to forego the old "dog and pony show"--as a friend calls her elaborate rituals--in favor of something simpler.

It was so simple that I didn't even formally cast a circle. I arose before dawn on the day of the Winter Solstice, created sacred space, and spontaneously created what follows.

    Supplies:
  • 1 gold candle
  • cinnamon essential oil
    Instructions:
  • Cast the Circle
  • Invitation to the Quarters
  • Anoint the candle from the bottom end to the middle, then from the wick to the middle with the cinnamon oil.
  • Light the candle, then say, Saule! Amaterasu! Ashirat! Frigga! Ra! Helios! Apollo! Lugh! All ye Gods and Goddesses of the Sun, both known and unknown to me, I ask you to return from the shadows and put an end to the dark half of the year. Farewell to the Holly King. Welcome to the light half of the year! Welcome to the Oak King!
  • Farewell to the Quarters
  • Dismantle the Circle
  • Allow the candle to burn out at its leisure while you go outside to enjoy the sunrise.
