A Ritual to Increase One's Knowledge of the Craft
A Ritual honoring the Cailleach Bheur

- Altar Devotion

- Calling the Quarters
- Invocation of Deity:
"Cailleach Bheur, Great and Wise Crone, I invite you forth this night so I may honor your presence and to ask your blessing upon my working. Welcome, great Grey Mare. So Mote It Be!"
- As the Cailleach is welcomed, a fuschia candle is lit in her honor. [Yes, I know fuschia seems to be an unusual choice for a Crone� But it's what she likes and I'm not about to argue with her! ]
- Statement of Purpose:
"I stand before you this night to increase my wisdom as a Witch. As I endeavor to increase my knowledge, I ask that you be with me, my Wise One, to guide my steps and to whisper your secrets in my attentive ear."
- Magickal Working:
- A bright yellow candle is charged to bring wisdom, using the chant, "As the flame of this candle devours the wax, so shall my mind devour knowledge of the Craft."
- The candle is anointed with rosemary oil and then rolled in ground sage.
- The candle is lit and allowed to burn completely out.
- As the candle burns, take a few moments to meditate on the changes to come.
- Offering:
- A glass of scotch is held up to the Heavens, as you say, "With my humble thanks for your wise counsel, I offer to you this libation of spirits. May the creatures of the wild partake of it with pleasure."
- The scotch is saved to be taken outside at conclusion of ritual.
- Thanking Deity:
"Cailleach, beloved Crone, I thank you for your presence during my ritual this evening. I thank you for the wisdom you have helped me to achieve in the past and for you assistance in the lessons to come. Go if you must. Stay if you like. Hail and farewell."
