"Lord Cinteotl, Spirit of the Corn,
who gives sustenance to the people
I invite you to join your Mother,
as we celebrate the first harvest."
- Blessing of the corn
- Place the seven ears of corn on the altar and say:
"Lady Chicomecoatl, bless these ears of maís
which shall feed the wild ones this winter,
when the corn no longer grows."
"Lord Cinteotl, bless these ears of maís,
so that the people may eat well
during the dark months to come."
- Wrap the corn in the red cloth and prepare for storage in a cool, dark, dry place.
- Take a moment or two for meditation or reflection on the season.
- Thanking Deity:
"Lord Cinteotl, Spirit of the Corn,
I thank you for your essence,
which causes the corn to sprout in the spring.
I thank you for the sacrifice
of your body when the corn is harvested.
May you go in peace."
"Lady Chicomecoatl, I thank you
for the blessing of maís,
which comes to us in the form
of your son Cinteotl’s body each year.
I thank you for watching over the people
and seeing that we all have enough to eat.
May you go in peace."
- Release Quarters:
"Forces of (Element), I thank you for your presence and protection throughout this rite. May you go now in peace. Blessed be!"
- Dismantle the Circle†:
"The Earth shall crumble my Circle,
the Water shall cause it to fall,
the Fire shall burn what is left in the urn
and the Winds shall scatter it all."
- Store the corn to dry
†=This comes from the book Dark Moon Mysteries and is my all-time favorite way to dismantle the Circle.
