My Daily Altar Devotion

This is adapted for my personal use from Silver RavenWolf's book To Stir a Magick Cauldron

This devotion can be done before any ritual or used on a monthly basis to cleanse your Altar space of the negativity that we all tend to collect from time to time. Personally, though, I try to do it once a day. It is one of the ways that I reaffirm my devotion to my Goddess and God.

Prepare your Altar space the way you prefer, making sure everything is clean & dust-free. If you are doing this on a monthly basis, this is a really good time to polish your statues, candlesticks, censers, etc., to buy fresh flowers for the Altar's centerpiece, to bring out your most beautiful Altar-cloth

Place a lit charcoal block and some loose incense (best to use something purifying like sage or frankincense) on the East side of the Altar; a lit candle (preferably in the color you traditionally use to represent the South; I use red) in the South; a bowl of pure spring water in the West; and a bowl of salt (I use Kosher or sea-salt personally) in the North.

Breathe deeply; ground and center your energies.

Add a pinch of incense to the lit charcoal block and hold your hand above it, so the smoke wafts through your fingers. Say:
"Creature of Air
I cleanse you of all negativity.
I consecrate you in the names of Epona and Kernunnos
May your energies bless this sacred space.
So mote it be!"

Repeat at South, West, and North, using a candle, a bowl of water, and a bowl of salt respectively.

Hold the bowl of water and raise it before you, moving it to the center of the Altar.

Put three pinches of salt into the water.

Stir with the index finger of your projective hand until the salt is dissolved, saying:
"As the Rod is to Kernunnos,
So is the Chalice to Epona,
And together, Their essence forms the All."

Replace the water in the West.

Place your hands at the North, at the outer edge of the Altar. Slowly move them deosil (clockwise) in a spiral, working toward the center of the Altar. As you do this, think about the different qualities of the Elements mixing together in harmony.

Using the knuckles of your projective hand, knock lightly three times on the edge of the Altar, saying, "The Altar is consecrated. So mote it be!"

Now your Altar is fully prepared and you can cast your Circle if desired.
