| Some info on my family My gt gt grandfather William Shuttleworth born Borwick/Capernwray Lancashire, England married Elizabeth Errington (born Over Kellet Lancs). He was a wheelwright/farmer & to my knowledge was related to Robert Shuttleworth who had a blacksmiths shop in Lancaster, England. William & Elizabeth Shuttleworth had: John Shuttleworth born 1839 Warton, Lancashire Joseph Shuttleworth born 1842 Over Kellet Lancashire, married Mary Ann Edmondson (at Warton) then Margaret Hunter (at Lancaster) (they came to New Zealand in 1879)(my gt grandparents) Sarah Shuttleworth born 1845 Borwick Lancashire Ann Shuttleworth born 1847 Over Kellet Lancashire Robert Shuttleworth born 1850 Lancashire, who married Annie Birkett they had 2 children ( they also came to New Zealand ) Joseph & Margaret Shuttleworth had: John William Shuttleworth born 1868 Halton, Lancashire England. married his cousin Mary Ann Shuttleworth they had no children (Robert & Annie's daughter) Robert Henry Shuttleworth was born 8 October 1869 at Halton, Lancashire England. married Jane Matthews. (my grand parents) (Jane's parents Edward Matthews & Henrietta Bird came to New Zealand from Oxford, England) Dora Shuttleworth born 1876 Lancashire UK, married William Hunter Edith Florence Shuttleworth born 1880 New Zealand, married Hugh Keown Frederick Ernest Shuttleworth born 1885 New Zealand, married Jane Botting Joseph & Margaret Shuttleworth emigrated with there family to New Zealand in 1879. They arrived at Wellington, Joseph worked there for awhile then moving his family to the South Island and they lived at Christchurch for a short period. The family moved again which would take them further south, to Lumsden, Southland. Joseph began farming there till he was badly injured , this happened while he was riding on the shaft of a dray load of oats and upon jumping off to hold on to the horses he got caught in the reins and was unable to get clear of the wheels. Robert helped to run his fathers farm after the accident for a short while. In 1900 he brought 300 acres at Otapiri and began clearing the land for farming. In 1903 he married Jane Matthews (her family also came from England). Robert had looked at other farms in New Zealand but would move back south an took up residence in Invercargill before he had brought a farm at South Hillend, 1917 he would buy another farm at Benmore which would be the family home and farmed there till he retired. Robert and Jane had 16 children; Leslie who married Marie Smith - farmed at Benmore Ruby " " Thomas Goble - Robert " " Ellen Edgerton - farmed at Benmore Pearl " " Harold Smith - farmed Cryil " " Audrey Watson - farmed Ivy " " Robert Smith - farmed Lintley Jean " " Bruce Brookes then Edward Edmunds Horace " " Thelma Soper - farmed George died infant George " " Charles who married Ulva Kitto Eva " " John McDonald - farmed at Dipton Alisla " " Dick Cameron then Len Murdock then Terry Breen Thomas " " Dawn Anderson - farmed at Benmore Edward " " Berys Gerken - " " " Sydney " " Shirley Barlow - farmed at Makarewa, motor machanic (Thomas & Edward are twins) Sydney Nelson Shuttleworth & Shirley Margaret Barlow (my parents) and they had: Margaret Ann, married Brian Kerr 5 children 1 grandson Karen Jane, " John Scott 4 " 5 grandchildren 2 sets of twins which died at birth, Murray Nelson, married Christine Duggan 3 children 1 grandson Sydney Alexander, " Donna Swain divorced Wallace John, " Donna Forrest 2 children Craig Robert, " Debbie Tatana 1 child, then Debbie Gibbon 4 children Mark Phillip, DI died in Townsville Australia, 16 March 2004 Jason Paul, married Karen Gibbon 4 children Katrina Shirley, DI died in Invercargill New Zealand 19 August 1975 Murray Nelson Shuttleworth married Christine Margaret Duggan and had Melissa, Aaron and Sarah. I was appointed a Justice of the Peace (JP) for New Zealand on the 18th August 1998 |
