Our trip to Australia - July/August 2002
This is the Richmond Hill Hotel. It is where we stayed our first night in the land down under! It was a quaint little villa in Richmond, a suburb of Melbourne. We based our touring of the city from here and walked most places. We'd usually stop back in for a late tea and biscuits. The breakfast was AWESOME -- fruit, porridge, yogurt, toast, vegemite ... the list goes on.
This is St. Mary's cathedral -- linked to St. Mary's Grammer School. The building is impressive, but check out the Land Cruiser!
This is James Cook's cottage from somewhere in England. Someone decided to tear it down and carry it to Australia and then rebuild it ... (location, location, location)
The Conservatory is in the same park as James Cook's Cottage. It has a bunch of flowers in it. Pretty cool, and they have a pond out back, but no fish.
There's a free tram that goes around the Central Business District of Melbourne -- needless to say, the price was right. We thought we should get our picture taken so we asked the Japanese lady you can see in the right of the picture. She gave us the 'not me' face, and her husband came over and explained that he would take it since his wife would most likely chop off our heads. (Not literally ...)
The Yarra River flows through Melbourne. Yarra means 'Muddy' in one of the aboriginal dialects (or so we were told). There's good eating on the South Bank (the left side of the picture).
Days 1 and 2 - Melbourne
