EDUCATION
2000 - Present
Doctor of Philosophy, Aerospace Engineering, University of Manchester
Thesis: Fluidic Thrust Vectoring for Low Observable Air Vehicles
1995 - 99
School of Engineering, University of Manchester
MEng(Hons) Mechanical Engineering (Integrated European Programme)
Degree Class: 2.1
Subjects studied include:
Fluid Mechanics, Dynamics, Solids, Thermodynamics, Design, Advanced Mathematics, Management, Failure Analysis.
Final Year Project:
Thesis: The Effect of Actuator Dynamics on Flutter Testing
The work carried out provided an insight into the complex topic of flight flutter testing. Mathematical models of a simple three degree of freedom flutter systerm and a system incorporating advanced actuator dynamics were developed using the MATLAB software package and simulated using SIMULINK. These models were then used in order to investigate various flutter test scenarios.
1998 - 99
University of Essen, Germany
As part of my degree course I studied at the University of Essen in the Applied Mechanics Department. There I completed a project on the Inlfuence of Solvents on the Viscosity of Highly Dilute and Semi-Dilute Polyelectrolyte Solutions and attended lectures in various engineering related subjects in order to improve my knowledge of mechanical engineering and German.
1993 - 95
St. Wilfrid's Sixth Form College, Blackburn, Lancashire
4 A-Levels - Mathematics, Physics, German, General Studies
1988 - 93
St. Wilfrid's High School, Blackburn, Lancashire
10 GCSE's - Grades A-C (Inc. Mathematics, Sciences, English)
WORK EXPERIENCE
1999 - 2000
Research and Development Engineer, Vorwerk GmbH, Wuppertal, Germany
>
Carried out a research project involving heat transfer/fluid dynamics.
>Responsible for presenting the results to the Managing Director
>Built prototypes, which were presented and displayed at the company's general meeting in Zurich.
>Translation work from German into English.
1995
Design Engineer, Cobble Ltd., Blackburn, Lancashire
>Transferred hand-drawn technical designs onto computer using AutoCad R.13.
>Involved in setting up a database of CAD drawings which were accessible via computer terminals by technicians on the shop floor.
>Gained experience in time management processes and their application to manufacturing components.
OTHER SKILLS
Fluent German speaker and I can also converse effectively in Italian. I have an ability to learn languages quickly. I have experience in the following computer packages: Microsoft Office, MATLAB, SIMULINK, Fluent, gambit, Microstation, AutoCad and Abaqus.
