The two dogs here are Whiskey and Cinnamon, "The Girls." They will always greet you, or anyone
walking by for that matter. The cabin is in the background. As you can see, it is "quaint." Both dogs
are loved by the neighborhood, particularly our next door neighbor, Joe Corrigan.
Whiskey was born in 1990. She was
three months old when she came to live with Mary Lou. She is part Golden Retreiver, part Shepard, and part coyote. She is
a gentle sole who is very much the homebody. She gets insecure if she is away from home for very long. A trip to the vet in
Palm Springs is too long. She loves the mountains, particularly the snow.
Jon Tom is our very senior citizen. He was
born in 1986, and was a gift to Julia from a boyfriend. Jon has lived in Los Angeles and Palm Springs but has spent of his life in Idyllwild. That is no
small feat because cats tend to have a short life span in Idyllwild. The coyotes usually get them. Jon has
survived it all. He has adjusted to dogs coming in and out of his life. He has had to adjust to another cat for a few
years. Jon has outlived and outsurvived them all.
Who says dogs and cats don't get along. If one of these two want the couch, the
presence of the other is not going to get in the way. Jon and Cinney have formed a friendship. You will
often seen them sleeping side by side on the couch, the bed, or the bench outside.
Indeed, this is what she is, a precious pumpkin. That is one of our pet names for her, and she
even answers to it. I do not know of anyone who has met her who hasn't immediately wanted to take her home.
She is the perfect small dog companion. She was originally Julia's too. Julia, however, lives with her aunt,
and they could not secure the yard, and Cinney would get out. Julia was afraid the coyote's would get her, so
she asked me if I could take her. Without hesitation, Leigh and I said we would, and she immediately
became an important part of our family.Go to Top
