The cabin was built around 1929 as a garage and is one of the oldest structures
in Idyllwild.
It is a corner lot that is a quarter of an acre. It gets lots of exposure to the sun,
which helps the snow to melt fast. It also has lots of trees on it so there is shade in
the summer. There is a beautiful view of the mountains out our front window, and you can
watch the sun rise each morning through the trees.
The cabin, itself, sits back in corner of the lot away from both streets, that means
we have privacy. Our next door neighbors in back of us come up only in the summer so we don't
have them invading our privacy. They are nice people, though, so when they are here, they are
good company. The cabin is small. It is only about 525 square feet (that you can stand upright
in). To most people, this would seem way too small for two people; however, while we would like more
space, it is comfortable and easy to maintain.
Our current plans do not include bigger housing for ourselves, we have a roof over our heads. The
cars and Leigh need a garage desparately. We have a two-car "Cover-It" structure, but the last big wind
tore the cover almost completely off. Tools and cars under restoration are exposed to the weather and
something needs to be done. We hope to have a garage in place by the end of summer.
About six or seven years ago, the property was fenced which makes it deal for the animals. We have three
right now, but we have had as many as five (three dogs and two cats). They are our Kids.
