This digital library consists of a collection of
images, sound files, html documents, short video segments to provide as
much information as possible about the four chosen Mesoamerican groups:
The Olmecs, Toltecs, Teotihuacans, and Zapotecs. With this
collection of diverse documents, I hope to introduce everyone who is
interested in this topic to Mesoamerican culture. This project consists of two parts: an optional introduction (for beginners) and the database (advanced).
This project focuses mostly on a worthwhile theme that has gone largely under- researched specially in the digital
world and the internet.
These four groups
that are not as well known as the Mayas, Aztecs or Incas (from
Peru), played equally important roles in the development and
structure of Mesoamerica. For example, little is known about
the Olmecs but they were the oldest culture in Mesoamerica who laid out
the standards in art, religious themes, which would be emulated by later
groups. The way that this library is structured is in the
following way:
1) The user can explore each
separate group by clicking on the images that will be linked to specific
categories.
2) The user
can click on the arrows on the bottom, right hand corner to continue in a
linear search that will start with the Olmecs and end with the credits.
3) Or at the bottom of each page the
user can choose a category that they would be most interested in
exploring or go directly to the search by query where the user can
specify which category (around 14 categories) he/she is interested in
such as timeline, art,
history or if they know the name of an author which they are interested
in they can also search this way.
4) If interested in knowing how and
why this project was planned and developed read the project
proposal.
