| Kid Koala's Diary February 2005 Aylesworth Family Kindergarten and Grade 2 New Jersey, USA |
| Hi!
Kid Koala has finally started his adventures with us here in NJ! Our family has a dad, a mom, and two kids, Katie and Brian. Katie is almost 7 years old and Brian is 5 years old. Katie and Brian do not go to a school. They learn at home with their mom and dad. On Saturday, March 5, 2005, we went to Howell Living History Farm in Titusville, NJ, USA. We all had to bundle up because it was a cold day. Kid Koala wore a red coat and blue jeans, just like Katie and Brian did. Kid Koala also had on his blue mittens and his red stocking cap (sort of like Santa Claus's hat). The people at Howell Farm demonstrate how farming was done in the US around the year 1900. This particular day, the topic was maple sugaring - getting sap from sugar maple trees and making the sap into yummy maple syrup for our pancakes! We didn't try any of the syrup, but we did see the taps in some of the maple trees and some of the sap in the buckets. We also saw some of the sap in the process of being boiled down into syrup. Did you know it takes 40 gallons of sap from a sugar maple tree to make one gallon of maple syrup? Here are some pictures of Kid Koala enjoying the farm: |
