
Our History
Malaysian Disability Charity is a non-profit and non-government organization which began life in 2007. Our organization is governed by a board of directors consists of deaf people, professionals, and supporters. The main objective of the organization is to provide a channel for helping the deaf people to communicate with the society.
As the deaf people having a problem to communicate effectively with the people surround, so the guide or communicator service was established by Malaysian Disability Charity since 2007. The service is run by sigh language teacher or trained volunteers to teach the deaf people and their family members about the way to communicate through American Sign Language (ASL). Then, the deaf people can receive a service of 900 hours per annum. Our organization will have provided 29,000 hours of the service to 102 people in the year 2008.
Since 2008, Malaysian Disability Charity also provides a group of counselor for counseling session to treat the trauma that might be face by this group of disabled people. All the activities provided are free of charge.
Besides that, Malaysian Disability Charity is a registered society under Societies Act. There are a total of 250 members and is supported by over 400 registered volunteers in our organization. Moreover, our organization also receives funding from grant and membership fees.
Mission
The organization missions are:-
To provide permanent and professional services to deaf people, helping them to interact with others and live independently
To help all the deaf people, regardless of race, religious and culture
To help the deaf people to become equal citizens and live as rightful members of their own communities
To improve the quality of life of the deaf people through collaboration with other agencies
To ensure that the deaf people become more productivity and contribute to the community.
