i'm not an american. i'm a canadian, but you know what? i think my beliefs about democracy are even more relevant south of my border than they are in my own country. so i'm spewing.

this election shit pisses me off. the whole fucking political system pisses me off. and the people on high horses about it ALSO piss me off. you know why? because NOBODY knows the truth about what goes on in an election or any other part of the joke we call democracy - except of course those who are poised to control it, and they ain't hanging around forums letting us all in on the skinny.

parties are a joke. party leaders are a joke. do you really think that you are voting for a person who means one iota of what he said on television? do you think the praise of him is true? do you think the slander about him is true? my NSHO is that NONE of it is true, and it's all there to get people wound up about anything but what's REALLY going on in their country. a distraction all us dumb idiots fall for to give ourselves the illusion that we have some control over what happens. HA!

you really wanna influence who controls your country and mine (and a whole bunch of others)? go to walmart, go to safeway, go to the bank of america, go to disney or time-warner or mgm or mcdonalds or microsoft. because they've already bought the next fifty actions your beloved representatives are about to undertake. they've bought every vote on every bill, amendment, policy change, budget decision, you name it. so what the fuck (buck, sorry Savi) does it matter who the hell you vote for? they're puppets - better than that, they're ACTORS, except it ain't oliver stone directing this movie - its big business, mostly multinational business. and do you really think somebody with that much money really cares about human rights? or poverty? or illness? or war? only if there's more money in it, baby.

voting makes me feel like i'm going to church. like i'm taking part in a ritual that has nothing to do with the real deal. i have a mental picture of the voting population as little white lab rats... with the two percenters watching above the cage laughing at how cute it is that we've all been trained to so enthusiastically press that little metal bar to get a pellet. and that the rats will actually fight with each other about it! amazing!!

this isn't to say that any political action is futile. VOTING as a means of political action is futile, and caring about it is just a waste of time and energy.

make your own rules and live by those ones. if there's a law or a policy that's infringing on your rules, go fight it. but don't do it at the ballot box like they tell you to do (did it ever really get you anything before? think about it!!!). go pressure the people who really can make a difference. when you don't like a movie you don't fire the ticket salesperson - you decide not to see that director's movies anymore, and you might even boycott the places who show the movie

alright i am getting off on too many tangents here. i'll say that although i really believe the things that i have said, i've chosen to say them in a rather nasty way because i'm feeling rather nasty. so if you're gonna take issue with me figure out why first - because i'm talking like a condescending bitch or because of my politics?
