Parents of Visually Impaired Children
Home Educating Your Visually Impaired Child *HOME

I am the visual impairment parent contact for education otherwise.  If you would like to talk to me about home education and visual impairment, please feel free to contact me Lynsey. Please let me know where you found my details.

Some parents may feel that home education is particularly suited to the visually impaired child.  It can easily fit around medical appointments and changes in vision and the parent can find suitable materials for the child instead of adapting a curriculum aimed at sighted children in school.

The LEA do not have to provide any specialist provision or equipment for your child, but like other home educating families, you may find that you simply do not require specialist input for your child when they have the opportunity to learn outside the classroom.

You may, like other parents of visually impaired children, apply to charities for grants towards aids and equipment.

There is an international yahoo group for parents who are home educating.  Parents or the children are visually impaired.  There are also lots of national and local yahoo and other email based groups for home educators to join.
