After Thoughts - A golden opportunity missed Last year, 2001 was quite a challenging year for me. In the midst of hard work ad striving for the PMR public examination, I still had time to go to Singapore twice. First was for my scholarship entrance examination held at the Crescent Girls School and the other time was in November. It was for my interview after selected from the examination. Not long after that, I got the reply. I've been offered ASEAN scholarship to study Secondary 3 in Singapore, in one of the top schools there. I will get free accommodation, exemption from all school fees and Sing$200 every month. How cool was that! I was really looking forward to the challenging environment in Singapore. I don't mind losing to the others, I know I'm not the best. But sadly, my parents finally decided not to let me go. They expected me to study medicine and it's near to impossible to do so in such a competitive environment in Singapore. So after much consultation, I rejected the scholarship offer heavy-heartedly. I'm really disappointed and sad, till now, I still can't take off from my mind about missing the golden opportunity. Every time I do something, I would think about studying in Singapore. The big and beautiful school, the clean environment, and the challenging and tough competition in studies. I guess this is not going to do any good for me if I go on thinking about going there all the time. I hope I can go on with life here, excel in every thing I do and achieve what my aim. So after this, I hope my mind can be more open and positive about this matter. |
