Lisa's Letter to Sally Jessy Rafael

Nov, 6, 2001

Today I was going through Lisa's email account and I found this letter she wrote to a tv talk show host in April 2000. It just shows what a caring person my sister was.

April, 2000

Dear Sally,

I am writing on behalf of my friend of 23 years, Lynda. We met back in the seventies when her son and my daughter were two years old and we have remained close throughout the childrens and our own, growing up years. Last year, our children became parents and Lynda and I became grandparents.

My daughter, Wendy, lives in North Carolina with her husband, David, and I was able to go there when Rebecca was born to share in their joy and to meet my outstanding granddaughter for the first time. What a joy to hold her in my arms! Wendy has since brought Rebecca to visit me in Maine several times. I can't tell you how important it has been for me to know my granddaughter.

Lynda's son Shannon and his wife Ellen live in Kentucky. When Kayleigh was born in August, Lynda was so thrilled and proud, but because of financial difficulties on both ends, and other obligations, Lynda in New Hampshire has never met Kayleigh in person.

Sally, my friend Lynda was so happy to know that she would be a grandmother and also to know she would be a girl. She has shopped at yard sales and store discount sales to dress this baby since she knew the child was coming. She's sent a swing, baby seat, and other types of paraphanalia to Kentucky so this child wouldn't have to go without. Lynda mails film so pictures can be taken. Her son Shannon calls her collect every week so they all stay in touch often.

Shannon is a young man starting out in a new place and his wife Ellen is a stay at home Mom. They can't affort to travel to see Lynda and Lynda is financially strapped and also a full time caretaker of a woman with disabilities. Although they want to meet, they have been unable to. The kicker to this story is-the baby is the spitting image of Lynda with her wide eyed expression and her deep curly locks. I would love to see them get together on your show Sally. What do you think? I would love to see the joy on my friends face when she holds her grandchild in her arms. Please help my friend to meet her granddaughter for the first time! I love you and I love your show!

Sincerely,

Lisa Frye

Note from Lynn: it just so happens that I called Lynda last night and invited her and her family to Maine for Thanksgiving, so this was a coincidence to find this email from Lisa today.

I just wrote this short note to Sally Jessie - she'll probably never see it, but I wanted to write it anyway:

"My twin sister Lisa sent this show idea request to your show April 2000. Little did she know that she would die from cancer on June 29, 2001. The reunion she wished for did happen ... for her funeral. Sad isn't it?

Lynn Boston, Lisa Boston Frye's twin sister. 1
