ESSENTIAL STOPS FOR THOSE TRAVELLING THE WESTERN HALF OF AUSTRALIA'S COASTLINE -

Head of the Bight (along the Nullabor). In fact seeing you're driving along this endless road anyway make sure you stop at several lookouts.

Madura Roadhouse. If you are staying a night on the Nullabor (and it is not recommended to drive after dusk as you are almost guaranteed to hit a kangaroo) then this roadhouse is by far situated in the most pleasant location along the way.

The 4WD track (if passable) from Balladonia Roadhouse to Esperance.

Fitzgerald River National Park. For those who emjoy walking, the climb up East Mt. Barren is beautiful.

The Chocolate Factory near Margaret River. And there's plenty of wineries for those into that sort of thing.

Kalbarri National Park (especially for those into fishing)

The Peron Peninsula (near Monkey Mia). Don't miss a soak in the incredibly hot Hot Tub at Peron Homestead just north of Monkey Mia.

Karijini National Park.

Ningaloo Reef. For The
Best Snorkelling, drive into the National Park and swim at Torquiose Bay. You can step right off the beach and do a "drift" snorkel, if you walk down past the point, just float face down and let the current take you back around (making sure you don't get taken away too far and end up in the rip and out to sea). We saw everything from turtles to huge fish to sharks and rays.

If you're rich, do a Whale Shark Tour at Exmouth (we didn't because we are poor but everyone we spoke to said it was magnificent).

The outdoor Picture Gardens in Broome is an experience not too miss.

The Bungle Bungles, but you'll need a 4WD to get in there. Once again if you're rich apparently the helicopter flights are awesome. Very picturesque.

Of course both Kakadu and Litchfield National Parks, both are not to be missed and are special in their own rights. If you have a 4WD do NOT miss Twin Falls and Jim Jim falls (if it's not too wet). And the Aboriginal artwork is incredible - watch out for the drawing of a Tasmanian Tiger, drawn before they became extinct on the mainland.

The Katherine Hot Springs are great for a relax.
