THE BURNING TIMES
It all began with a vicious lie Madness swept through the winter sky Pointing an icy finger At those they thought should die "The Devil lies within", they'd say Shackled, bound, they were led away Caged with no hope for justice Their sanity decayed And the gallows claimed their prize The blood of the innocent And the hate spread like pollution And the tears fell from their eyes One by one they died There would be no absolution Panic ruled in the village court Casting a shadow on Salem's port Fanning the flames of anger And stretching patience taut Justice served to suit their needs Accused of evil deeds They're sacrificial lambs for the pious wolves to feed Still the gallows claimed their prize The blood of the innocent And the hate spread like pollution And the tears fell from their eyes One by one they died There would be no absolution The trials They had no voice They suffered through the Burning Times Denial Their faith held strong Their souls lost to the Burning Times So to those wolves they all were thrown Seeds of ignorance were sown Till one day the finger turned and accused one of their own All at once they began to hear Cries that fell upon deafened ears Now they gave in to reason And stopped the reign of fear Yet the gallows claimed their prize The blood of the innocent And the hate spread like pollution And the tears fell from their eyes One by one they died There would be no absolution
