In this section, it contains what I think are the best that Malaysia has to offer. So, without further delay, here are the special reports : WHERE ARE THE BEST PLACES TO BUY CD-ROM GAMES ? Based on frequent visits to many CD shops around Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, Here is my list of the top 3 best places to buy games. #1 LOW YAT PLAZA, KUALA LUMPUR & T&L Computer Centre, Amcorp Mall Pros : Many shops = many titles, low prices Cons : Should have more older titles on budget Surprise Surprise ! It's a tie ! Currently in the position of Number One is Low Yat Plaza in Kuala Lumpur and T&L Computer Centre at AmCorp Mall, PJ. Though I must admit I have been there only a few times at Low Yatt Plaza but I believe that this place will eventually replace the once famous Imbi Plaza situated not far from here. Just imagine, the whole floor in Low Yat Plaza is used to sell nothing but computer hardware and software ! The environment is also a major improvement compared to Imbi Plaza. It is brighter, cleaner and more spacious. But the the most important factor is the price of the software sold there , which is the lowest it at RM5 for a single CD. You also can get some great bargains on computer hardware here. On the downside, it would be better if there are shops selling older titles at a much cheaper price. You must also buy at least 10 CD titles if you want to get 2 addtitional CD titles for free, which is probably too much for one buyer. Nevertheless, if you want to search for current titles at the lowest prices, you will not regret coming here. The other shop in my number one is nearest to residential areas - T&L Computer Centre in Amcorp Mall, Petaling Jaya. This shop, which I frequently visit, has dropped their prices to match those shops at Low Yatt Plaza. But, instead of buying 10 Cds in order to get one cd free, you just have to buy 5 cd's ! That's great value. Plus, it is also convinient - Just take the LRT to Taman Jaya Station and walk a few minutes. The only complaint is that if you want to buy applications or other software, go somewhere else. At RM8, that's expensive. I suggest you go to the night markets (which is #3 in my list) to buy software - They are the same price as games. #2 BASIC ELECTRONICS, AMPANG PARK SHOPPING CENTRE, KUALA LUMPUR Tel. : 03-21614768 Pros : Convinient to get there. Just take the PUTRA LRT, high quality CD's Cons : Not a place to buy newer titles (expensive), mostly games are sold. I know, I know. You might ask me : Hey LYK, how come all the shops are in the city of Kuala Lumpur ? But the main thing is that if you have an obsolete PC, then you should pay a visit to this shop as they have the most old CD games on budget (which is 3 CD's from RM10). You can still buy the latest titles from here but it is not worth it. At RM7 per CD, it is too expensive by today's prices. But for the price you pay, you get a fairly thick manual and if you are lucky, a multicoloured CD that looks exactly like the original ! Overall, only come here to buy older titles or games which cannot be found in other shops. If the title is not in their catalog, it does not exist ! #3 Night Markets around Petaling Jaya Pros :cheap prices (even cheaper of you buy more) Cons : Older titles are rare Ah, finally, a place nearer to where most people live. If you visit any night market in any chinese area (SS2, SS3, Paramount Garden), you can find that there are many stalls selling CD-ROMS scattered around the night market. With prices at RM5, it is comparable to Low Yat Plaza. They sell the latest games, software (operating systems, utilites) and MP3s. And if you buy more ( at least 5 CD's), you get a CD of your choice absolutely free ! (note : not all sellers have this offer, so ask first . It is also more convinient to exchange CD's if it does not work in your PC. So there you have it ! The Best 3 places to shop for CD-ROMS ! Disagree with my findings ? Reply at [email protected]. I would really like to hear from you.

LYK Archives : Special Report news & reviews not found anywhere else !
Here is a quick report on the best magazines to read to get to know about upcoming games as well as the latest reviews. Here are my recommendations: 1. PC Gamer Malaysia (RM9) Don't let the name fool you. It is actually the UK version that is copied and pasted. Recently launched in April. Contains 1 CD. 2. PC Gamer (US) (Back issues : RM12-15) But if you really want reviews that are easy to understand and unbiased, then this magazine is the best. Though it lacks some features found in the UK/Malaysia edition such as budget reviews and special features. Contains 1 cd but only demos, seldom includes movies.
