| Douglass When I think of you I remember the good things and all that we used to do. I remember the stories you told especially the scary ones! And the neat sounds you made it always made me laugh and when I think of you now I wonder why you had to go away why did you leave me? Why did you take your life? You weren't alone, I loved you, and we all did. I know that as a man you were so shy you used alcohol and drugs to make you feel like a man, to feel brave. But bravery comes for the heart, and you were braver than you thought. I still need you And I'll never forget you, To my Uncle Dougy, I love you. 1989 After-thought I wrote this poem after watching a movie about to lovers who were constantly torn from each other because of a raging battle which causes one of them to die but the other lover carries on till they are reunited in death. |
