BRUCE LEE
The True Dragon
(Petition for Stamps in His Memory)

As many of you fans know, Bruce Lee was the pioneer of Martial Arts incontemporary times (Martial Arts is a skill of warfare and is its own artform that is several centuries old.)

He was also a true "ambassador." He introduced the beauty of the Chinese culture as well as Asian culture, as a whole, I might add, to non-Asian people.

He was the firstAsian person that I was "introduced to" who didn't do the things that I thought Asian people were "suppose to do." I was only four years old (late '60's---"Kato time") and just ignorant as a child of another ethnicgroup would be. Instead, I found him to be articulate, brave---and powerful.

Other countries around the world have already commissioned a series of stamps in tribute to Bruce Lee's memory. It's not that way in the "good old U.S. of A", of course.

Some time ago, I received a letter back from a guy at the United States Postal Service who basically, in so many words, said that there are just too many people who want to "make everything into a stamp" and that a stamp for Bruce Lee would not be possible.

In my opinion, if that's not "subtle racism", then I don't know what is! To my knowledge (this is me "talking"), there is not one stamp attributed to not one Asian-American. Let's not forget those Asian Americans who fought and died during WWII. They have not been recognized for anything, yet, but we won't go there.

Bruce Lee, as you know, was Asian-American. He was born in San Francisco while his parents were visiting from Hong Kong to be in a show. So, he had dual citizenship (if my knowledge of this serves me right)---one of Hong Kong (Chinese) and one of here, the United States!

He contributed a whole lot more to our culture than Elvis Presley or Marilyn Monroe did! They even have a stamp for f-----n' bugs bunny, but theywon't commission a stamp for a true "American Master", Bruce Lee. He did so much.

Please, do whatever you can to petition the United States Postal Service to commission a stamp for him.
