| Science fiction is also known for exploring new ideas, and sometimes for embracing the outright philosophical. Here's one of my favorite quotes: "I often seek theological insights in reading science fiction because this is a genre eminently suited to explorations of the nature of the Creator and creation."--Madeleine L'Engle The genre has a great appeal to the dreamer in all of us, when it's at its best. Of course, to really experience Sci Fi, you have to go read it and see it for yourself, so I put together a little list of a few of my favorite sci-fi stories: BOOKS Some Great Sci-Fi: A Wrinkle in Time--Madeliene L'Engle Dune --Frank Herbert Starship Troopers (no, not the movie, thank you very much!) The Foundation Trilogy--Isaac Asimov On a Pale Horse--Piers Anthony Time Wars (short story collection) The Death Gate Cycle--Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickmann Ender's Game--Orson Scott Card Childhood's End--Arthur C. Clarke Jaran--Kate Elliott Some Great Fantasy (for the avid readers out there): The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, the Unbeliever The Hobbit--JRR Tolkien The Lord of the Rings trilogy by JRR Tolkien The Silmarillion-JRR Tolkien Knight of the Word Series--Terry Brooks MOVIES The Star Wars Trilogy (no list is complete without it....) Contact The Matrix (of course!) X-Men Men in Black Galaxy Quest Waterworld Wing Commander (it's not a great film, but it's not bad, either) |
