| 6-week Parent/Baby class outline |
| WEEK ONE: starter signs * Getting started with first few basic signs more, milk, food, finished, mom, dad, baby |
| WEEK TWO: Animals and nature * Learn new signs with fingerplay and vobac drill: cat, dog, bird, fish, duck, cow, horse, butterfly, bug, tree, flower, etc. |
| WEEK THREE: Play Signs (and some clothing) teddy, doll, play, ball, hug, love, jump, dance, music, book,airplane, car, truck, boat, train, shoes, hat, etc. |
| WEEK FIVE: Bed and Bath time signs * Deaf Guest Speaker: introduction, presentation = 10 minutes * review vocabulary Baby Name Signs and Deaf Culture Bath, clean, dirty, soap, water, bubbles, bed, blanket, pillow, moon, dark, lights on/off, etc. |
| Classes do not always follow the outline exactly. Class dynamics and new ideas will influence the direction of the classes. |
| WEEK FOUR: Food and Drink signs Food: cookie, apple, juice, cracker, milk, water, cereal, etc. |
| WEEK SIX: Manners and Emotions help, please, thank you, stop, hurt, sorry, hapyp, sad, mad, etc. |
| We end each class with the same song so you will have 6 weeks to perfect it! |
| Each week: 1. We start class gathered around our signing mat to share stories and experiences 2. We review signs 3. We learn new vocabulary 4. We do a nursery rhyme and a story (each week, each parent will bring home a nursery rhyme activity to learn with baby (this is the only homework!!!) 5. We learn a song 6. We have time set aside for mom's to teach their baby the "sign of the week" (an easy sign that babies usually pick up first...Mom's will spend a few minutes doing some hands on with their babies). 7. Questions and review 8. We end class singing and signing "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star" 9. On the 5th class, we try to have a Quest Speaker from the Deaf Community come to talk about ASL and Sign Names. |
